Remarks

The management of the college is quite efficient, but because of the long drawn procedures specified by the government, things seem a little messy and slow. But in fact, things are quite smoothly handled by the staff. My experience at CET has been extremely good. Those 4 years have shaped me as a person. I have learnt to be more confident and follow my passion in life. It has been the place where I met some of the most important people in my life.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The curriculum is up to date with the present industry requirements. It is quite fair, although there isn't too much scope for a research-driven approach. The curriculum includes courses that help the students in understanding and developing their communication skills, and preparing for placements. Specific training session are held prior to the placement season as well to groom the students. The college also organises industry visits for all the departments, depending on their requirements. There are at least two industry visits organized per academic year.

Placement Experience

5

Internships were organised by the college in collaboration with certain companies, although not all students were able to get internships through this process. Placements were extremely well-organized. MNCs like TCS, Accenture, Cognizant, MuSigma, TekSystems, MindTree, Maruti Suzuki, Asian Paints, CocaCola, etc. visit the campus for placements. The companies usually have a written round of aptitude test for the first round of selection. Those students who clear this round go for the interviews. First, there is a technical round, and then the HR round. A few companies have specific rounds that are different from these, but majority of the companies follow this process. The percentage of students placed every year is more than 95%. In my year, there was 100% placement. The college, as well as some of the companies visiting the campus organized pre-placement training sessions for the students where they were trained on how to appear for the interviews, how to prepare for the written tests, as well as improvement in their communication amd presentation skills.

College Events

5

1. Techno-Literary-Management Fest: Perception This 3-day fest is held in the month of October/November and has multiple events that give the students the opportunity to present their technical skills in competitions involving robotics, coding, etc. Students also buck-up on their management skills with events related to finances and economy. The creative ones get to showcase their flair for writing, speaking, acting etc. at the literary events that include storytelling, poetry writing, debates, etc. There are also lectures by esteemed guests and alumni of the college on various themes. The competitions and lectures are held all through the day, and the evenings have cultural programmes lined up, including star shows. Food stalls and stalls with handicraft and craft work by students are also put up for sale on campus.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees per semester was approximately ?25000, that is, ?50000 per year. This includes tuition fees, transportation fees, library fees, and other miscellaneous fees. Fees could be paid on cash, cheques, or online transfer. During admission, an extra ?1000 was charged for the registration process for the university. There is complete transparency in the fee-breakdown. It is provided to the students and parents right from the beginning.

Fees and Financial Aid

No, I have not availed any scholarships or education loans for this course. There were multiple scholarships available for students from economically weaker backgrounds as well as meritorious students.

Campus Life

4.5

The gender ratio was almost 1:1, and students came from very diverse backgrounds. There have hardly ever been issues because of ethnic or racial diversity, or other such reasons. There is a cricket ground, football field, badminton courts, basketball court, TT tables, and gyms on campus. Sports are encouraged and tournaments are often held on campus. There are clubs for robotics (and a specialised lab as well), debating, dance (and a studio), music, book reading, writers, etc. All clubs meet regularly and work passionately towards improving themselves and enjoying their hobbies. They frequently organise competitions as well.

Hostel Facilities

3

No, I did not opt for a hostel, though I have spent some time in the hostel with friends. Each room has 3 beds, and there are shelves on the wall. Common bathrooms and toilets are there in each floor.

Alumni/Alumna

The alumni network is strongly associated with the students. They provide financial aid to needy students, guidance in academics, as well as a lot of help in placements. Many members of the alumni association recruit students into their own companies as well. The seniors have always been there to help and guide the students whenever they need. They also share their experiences in the industry and prepare the students for upcoming challenges in life.

Admission

For the admission process, I appeared for the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE). Based on the rank I received in the exam (2388), I filled in my choices for the college and branch. I was alloted IT branch in CET. The entrance exam was conducted in the month of May, and the results were declared in June. The choice filling process was completed by the end of June and the allotments were declared by the end of July. Admission process began in August, and classes began from August 21.

Faculty

4.5

The number of lecturers for my course was about 30, including faculty from my department, as well as cross-department lecturers. The average age of the faculty would be about 38, and all the faculty have at least a post-graduate degree. At least 30% of the faculty have a Ph. D as well. Most of the faculty are certified to teach industry-relevant courses, and have good clarity in the concepts that they teach.

Placement Experience:

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
