Remarks

I can say only good things about my college as I really enjoyed my period of education from the year 1983 to 1988. I really miss college, its canteen and mostly its gymkhana as that was the place of our den in the last year of college.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

I completed my graduation in Bachelor of Commerce. The Exam structure was as per rules of University of Mumbai. It was very relevant at that time. Now, there are various courses in Bachelor of Commerce field. Now the education structure has changed and it is totally industry driven as per the course selected by the students. There are on-campus placements also in college.

College Events

4

As our college was totally a Commerce college there were no technical festivals organised. in 1983-1988 period there used to be only one cultural cum management festival organised. This Annual festival used to be organised in the College Auditorium and all students were invited and maximum students participated and attended. Various dance forms, plays/skits, singing, debates etc were organised. In the end the annual awards were given and also awards were given to the top performances.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure was feasible and not at all expensive in our period. Our Annual fees was around Rs. 7000 including all charges. This fees included total charges payable for course fees, library, gymkhana, extra curricular activities, etc. There were no additional charges to be paid to secure admission for our course. The college provided total transparency of the various charges in the receipt given by the college.

Fees and Financial Aid

For the annual fees of Rs. 6000 even in the year 1983 there was no need to take any loan or scholarship.

Campus Life

4

Campus life was totally enjoyable. The gender ratio between girls and boys would be 30:70. There were no dormatory parties as there was no dormatory in that period nor now. There were cultural societies and they organised different language mini festivals. The college used to publish a souvenir where students used to contribute as well as the faculty used to also chip in. There were 3 student editors who used to report to the main editor who was a faculty member.

Hostel Facilities

3

There was no hostel facilities provided by the college and not did I stay in any hostel as my house where I lived then was around 25 minutes walking distance from my college. At present also there is no hostel facility provided by my college.

Alumni/Alumna

We don't visit college alumni fuctions as at that time there was no alumni functions organised but alumni were called in the annual functions. But now we hear that there are alumni functions organised.

Admission

I had scored 83% marks and applied through offline process as in 1983 there was no online process. I got admission on my merit. As my father had an export business I had to learn tricks to become a businessman so I selected Bachelor of Commerce course which was the best for anyone to become a businessman. KPB Hinduja College of Commerce was very close to my office at a walking distance of 10 minutes so I selected this college so after finishing college I can attend office daily.

Faculty

4.5

The tentative number of lecturers in our Bachelor of Commerce course was around 15 which was sufficient. The average age of each lecturer was around 35 and mostly all of them were holding Bachelor of Education (BEd) or Master of Education (MEd). Mostly all the lecturers were widely experienced and hence had expertise in their subject and provided clarity on the subject they taught to the students. The lecturers at that time didn't need any industry-experience or certifications but yes today's lecturers do have it.

Placement Experience:

At TCSC placements are quite good as anyone. Even the SOBO colleges and Mithibai don't have placements as good as us. So this is why I always dreamt of studying here because since last 6-7 years, Thakur College placements have gone better and higher.

The good thing is that the college was not strict and was never forcing us to study rather it was seeing to it that it gave us proper advice and help us reach more towards my career goal. The bad part would be there were may staff which was very dull and was not kind, and no importance was given to correct their behaviour although it was evident by all.
