Remarks
I'm a Chennaite. And after extensive googling, research and enquiries I decided to go with VIT, Chennai. It is one of the best colleges in the city. The college is located in Vandalur - Kelambakkam Road, away from the city chaos (both, advantage and disadvantage), in a serene environment. The campus is spread across a vast area of 192 acres. There are multiple food point in and around the campus. It provides students with multiple opportunities in both academics as well as extra-curricular. Placements in VIT is main crowd-pulling factor, with highest as 40 LPA packages and an average of 3-4 LPA. The admission criteria for my program (M.Tech Integrated SE) was on the basis of 12th or equivalent grade. Course Curriculum Overview
Integrated Software Engineering has its perks, we could complete our PG in 5 years rather than the traditional way of doing it (4+2 yrs). The course curriculum is perfectly structured. The faculty:student ratio is average. Most faculties are highly qualified. They are friendly and highly encourage any/all queries. Teaching methodologies vary but majority teachers engage in interactive teaching. Exam structure is divided as 2+1. 2 internal exams, once in two months and 1 final exam each semester. Difficulty level is average. It is easy to pass with minimal studying as well.
Placement Experience
Placements are the main high lighting point about VIT. Students are eligible to sit for placements in their final year. Various companies visit VIT. Placements are divided as dream and super dream companies based on their packages offered. Over 500 companies provide placement offers for students. Most of these companies visit the Vellore campus, and students attend their placements by going over there. Highest package offered was around 30LPA by Microsoft. The average is around 4LPA. All students without standing arrears are eligible for placements. And most students who are eligible for placements get placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
For this program the fee structure ranges from 98k- 1.98L. This does not include hostel accommodation (concerns hostelers) or transportation fee (for day scholars). VIT provides scholarship for a selected merit student(s). There are various scholarship programs offered by other external institutions as well.
Campus Life
Campus life in VIT, Chennai described in one word is 'phenomenal'. There are two college fests , one each semester, conducted in the campus. TechnoVIT is the tech fest and the annual fest is Vibrance. Both equally fun and engaging. The library spreads over 4 floors and provides various facilities. Almost all books concerning all fields of engineering and Law are available in the library. A peaceful place to sit and study. Classrooms are spacious. Most labs are air conditioned. Sports and extra-curriculars are highly encouraged. The are over 20 clubs and more social groups and societies. Pick yours and you'd fit right in.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel fees range from 70k - 1.29L per year. There are various accommodation varieties available. 2 sharing, 3 sharing and 4 sharing rooms with and without AC. The mess charges range from 50k to 70k. Multiple options are provided for mess as well, including choice for north-Indian food, south-Indian food (both vegetarian and Non vegetarian). Hostel rules are a little strict and can be suffocating sometimes.
