The college is situated like an ecotone, where the either sides are rural and urban areas. As the diversity is always rich in an ecotone, our college also have the best system to support and uplift the women education.
Course Curriculum Overview
The syllabus covers all the advanced topics of the english literature. Form the ancient period to till date, the entire prose and poetry literary works are included. We also learn the research methodology in the final year of study. The four semesters gives all the knowledge needed to ace the degree.
Placement Experience
The top companies which are the regular recruiters of the college are LIC, TCS, Trustklub placement cell, Click 1 consultancy, Purplepropshop. We also have so much of new blooming firms giving chances to the freshers. The opportunity for the english literature students in the content writing department is a big upcoming offer. All the IT and corporate companies will start recruiting the english literature students for content writing with a high pay scale.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fees for the lost graduate programs are different from the under graduate programs. Because of the wide spectrum papers and project works, the fees for PG courses is higher than the UG courses. For the M.A., English, I have paid around ?.25,000 as the admission fees for the first year of study. The second year fees have to be paid separately the next year.

The college offers a number of scholarships to the economically weaker and meritorious students. Some of them are Free studentship ( for SC, ST, OBC, BPL, PH students) and Sports scholarship ( for those who excel in University sports competitions). The college also supports the State government scholarships like Merit scholarship, Minority scholarship & Merit cum Means scholarship.
Campus Life
There is a box maintained by the Grievance Redressal Cell which is opened on every the first Wednesday of every month to know the grievances of the students inside the campus. There are NCC and NSS wings in the college which actively participates in all the social programs and spreads awareness among the students of the college. The women studies centre helps to educate all the women students in and around the college area and to reduce the drop out of the women students in higher education.

The alumni network of the college is spread across the globe. The successful women meets up every year to cherish their good old memories and share their experience of their life in this campus. They also share the current job offers in their fields and encourages us to fly high.
Admission
I had applied for the PG degree in English in Basanti Devi College. The process of selection is purely based on the merit ranking system. The ranking is done by the percentage of UG marks. The preferred eligibility is B.A., in English literature. After filling the online application form, you have to pay ?.500/- for application fees. The merit list can be released after the application closes.
Faculty
The faculties are appointed directly by the state government. The PG department of English works under the University of Calcutta. Our faculties Madhumita mam and Debalina mam are so kind and very well experienced in teaching. Both of them are appointed by the college under CWTT method.
