The institute has actively taken part in many research projects throughout the world with different organizations. IIOR facilitated the development of world? first castor hybrid. Plus, the institute has also successfully developed screening techniques for Alternaria leaf spot disease.
Course Curriculum Overview
A Ph.D program in agriculture offers advanced studies related to plants, animals and farming in preparation for expert or academic positions. The Exam structure consists of Stream A and Stream B, Stream A consists of physics, chemistry and agriculture/biology and Stream B consists of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. Exam is purely based on the subjects except Stream A exam paper there are questions from both subjects ?Biology and Agriculture. Candidates need to attempt questions from either of the subjects.
Placement Experience
Ultimate job opportunities are there, agrochemical companies after Ph.D they hire students as head of R&D team and even policy makers. Banks hire students as agricultural field officer and we have one exam conducted by ICAR. We students are allowed to do internships and I have enjoyed a lot as internship as we had lot of exposure to field research program in crop improvement and we also met lot of farmers and stakeholders to disseminate our knowledge we are getting 15000 per month as stipend.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The total fees for the course are 1.81 Lakh Rs. in total for three years and it is affordable by students irrespective of student? background and for those who wants to pursue their careers in this field. Students also found hostel fee a feasible one.
Campus Life
The institute offers various facilities like cafeteria, museum, guest house, hostels, etc. There is an Agriculture Knowledge Management Unit along with an agronomy and agromet lab. There is ample space of field farm so that proper implementations and research can be carried out.
Alumni/Alumna
No information about the alumni network but there are seniors who provides full support by providing books for juniors like me and they also provide enough support when someone has problem in their courses.
Admission
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) conducts All India Agriculture Entrance Examination (AIEEA) for admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. The entrance exam, ICAR AIEEA is conducted in a pen-paper based test mode wherein we candidates attempt the question paper and, mark their answers on OMR sheets. The exam comprises of 180 multiple choice objective type questions. The exam starting from 9:30 am and, ending on 12 pm. I got admitted for Ph.D degree after I cleared the exam with a decent score.
Faculty
The faculties of the institute are appointed after thorough procedures of testing and qualification checks. The faculties work as per the norms and guidelines set by the institute. All of them are knowledgeable and assist and guide the students in conducting research work.
