My golden hours at the campus of Queen Mary's College

The Queen Mary's College is a 100 years old educational institution. It is special institution offering quality education at affordable cost for young women students. Though the college is affiliated with Madras University, it runs as an autonomous body.

There are two semesters for each year of study. The evaluation for CIA is based on test, quiz, seminar, assignment and attendance. The soft skill papers and non- major elective papers are made compulsory for all the students. We have in-depth practical sessions as learning of biochemistry should involve lots of hands-on training.

The placement cell was established in 2007 in our college. They provide free coaching classes in computer hardware maintenance, MS office tools & internet, mobile phone maintenance, financial accounting, software tally 9.0 and auto cad 2008. They organize various guest lectures and workshops to train them for drives. In 2019-2020 batch, around 1280 students have got placed in good jobs.

The college holds a list of events celebrated every year. They are union inauguration, valedictory function, college day, sports day, pongal celebration, Chennai day celebration, science exhibition, and national day celebrations. Apart from these the college conducts many national & international conferences as a part of academic activity.

The fee for UG course is so affordable. The amount to be paid for tution fee is ?.1,600/- per year. Apart from this, according to the number of theory and practical papers you appear in semester will account to the exam fees for each semester.

The college provides various scharships like SC/ST scholarship, State scholarship, MBC scholarship, BC scholarship, EVR Nagammai plan. There are few more scholarships for the students from SriLanka, Burma, children of Ex servicemen, physically handicapped students.

The college has about 39,648 sq.mt of play area. There are about 13 teams for various games and they excel even in national level tournaments. Special coaching in yoga, gymnastics and silambam is also given. We also have NSS, YRC, RRC, ROTARY, LSS, ADC wings in our college.

The college provides hostel accommodation for the girls coming from other cities. It provides rooms for about 250 students. The hostel mess caters a healthy and hygienic food. The aim of the college is to make this arrangements in a cost effective way.

The application form along with prospectus is provided in the college premises at a payable amount of ?.50/-. You have to submit your filled in application form within 10 days of declaration of HSC results. Then there will be a counselling for each course for selection of candidates. You should provide attested photocopies of the prescribed documents at the time of counselling.

We have four faculties in our department. Uma mam is our HOD. All of our staff members are highly qualified and have a great knowledge in handling practical sessions. Our Revathimani mam, Sujatha mam and Sumathi mam are Doctorate degree holders.
