Our college is the first women college in Kolkata to be sponsored by the Government of West Bengal. We have students from both rural and urban areas, supporting the women's education and helping them to enhance their skills to fly high in their life.

The course curriculum of Sociology is mainly focused to study on the social life and social behaviour. We also learn the various level of social interactions. We do field works to analyse the social issues and we really do enjoy it. This course enhances our skill to write dissertations. We are able to contrast the social realities against the traditional aspects. The syllabus is framed in a way to deeply analyse and understand one's own culture and his social life. The college provides 8 certificate courses and 14 value added courses. Apart from this, we have WEBEL training sessions.

Every year we get placement opportunities from companies like LIC, TCS, Trustklub placement cell, Click 1 consultancy, Purplepropshop and so on. The average recruitment rate is about 20% per year. The average salary package will be around ?.70,000 .

The fee structure is so feasible and same almost to all streams. This is because it is an government approved and aided college. The fees has to be paid twice a year for each semester. It will be on an average of about ?. 5000 per semester. I have paid ?.5,500 each for 2 semesters.

Yes our college offers various scholarships like Free studentship ( for SC, ST, OBC, BPL, PH students) and Sports scholarship ( for those who excel in University sports competitions). The State government provides few scholarships as Merit scholarship, Minority scholarship & Merit cum Means scholarship.

We have National Cadet Corps and National Service Scheme wings in our college to enable all the girl students participate in social service and awareness programs. We have a Grievance Redressal complaints box which is opened every month to sort out the complaints of the students. We also have a Women Studies Centre to prevent the dropout rates of women students from higher education system and encourage them to pursue her studies further.

There are a lot of successful women who are passed out from our college. They always stay connected with us. Every year they all meet together as well as help the present students in all possible ways. They also exhibit their talents and inspire all of us.

The process of admission is very simple. I filled the application form online in their website www.basantidevicollege.edu.in . They have both honours and general degrees. The eligibility for honours degree is 45% in allied and 50% in aggregate while for general degree you should have passed all papers. They also consider the students from economically weaker section and for those who are with special needs. Actually I applied for Sociology and political science. But for doing BA political science, you should have studied a paper on it in your school level. So I got selected only for BA Sociology.

The faculties are highly experienced and they are appointed by CWTT mode. It is a whole-time contractual teacher who are appointed by the government body in West Bengal. In our department, we have a government approved CWTT staff and a college approved CWTT. They are always down to earth and treat all the students equally. They always help us in academics and support us in co-curricular activities. The faculties are made to take-up development programs under the committee called Faculty Development Program by the college. This really helps all of them to stay updated in their fields.
