Political science at Sir Gurudas Mahavidyalaya

The college was established as a part of the Sir Gurudas Mahavidyalaya. Expansion, excess, quality and performance are viewed as the goals and so they are the four pillar of the college. It is affiliated with the University of Calcutta.

The course is a three year plan with six semesters. We have an option to choose the subject combination. For a UG course in Political Science, I have taken English and Economics as my general elective papers.

The college has a career counselling cell. It is approved by the UGC. Their main motive is conducting various trainings and lecture sessions in order to train the students for placement drives. Some of the recruiters are TCS, NIIT, IQST, LIC of India, WLC college, Company Secretariat, GYANI,etc.

The cost of fee is so much less and affordable to cater the needs of all the students. The amount to be paid for each year is about ?.5,000 approximately. This is for honours courses. It differs with general courses.

The college offers scholarships and stipends to help the meritorious and financially weaker students. It is provided as a concession in the fee. The college also helps the students to avail the government scholarship programs by right guidance.

Apart from academics, the college has various cultural clubs which involves in conducting various events. We also have sports and NSS clubs. The college helps the students with grievance redressal cell, anti-ragging cell, sexual harassment prevention cell, etc.

The college holds all the passed out students under one roof - the alumni association. They organize regular meet up with the present students and always serve as a mentor to us. They are very kind and helpful.

The only way for applying to this college is through an online application form. The minimum eligibility is 55% marks in HSC or equivalent exam. You have to keep checking for the selection list. It is purely based on the merit score ranking.

The department of Political Science offers both general and honours courses. We gave four staff members, out of which 1 is an Assistant Professor, 1 is a Lecturer, and 2 are Part Time Teachers approved by the Government. The department have also conducted national seminar.
