Remarks

It is the best college through Orissa JEE, hands down. Everyone does get placed here. The college needs to improve upon the faculty factor, which seems below par but the students are bright so it counter balanced that way.

Entrance Preview

I had appeared for Orissa JEE 2006 and got rank 49. CET Bhubaneswar was the top college in Orissa through the entrance examination I opted. Moreover I wanted to obtain a seat in Computer Science. Hence I chose CET Bhubaneswar.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course structure in Computer Science was quite comprehensive. The first year subjects included introduction to programming using C and data structures using C itself. In the second year, we were introduced to Object Oriented Programming using C++ and Database management. In the third year, we studied subjects such as Computer Architecture, Compiler design etc. In the final year, we studied subjects such as HTML, Computer design, artificial intelligence etc.

Internships Opportunities

The culture at the college didn't support any sort of internships. The students had to look for one by themselves or work on projects on their own. Hence, the stipend varies from student to student. Majority of students never did an internship at college level.

Placement Experience

4

The college is known for its placement statistics, which is better than many other private colleges. But, regular companies came to campus during our time. For CS/IT related, TCS, Infosys, Wipro and Mindtree came and hired maximum students. They offered their bare minimum salary base. A handy number of non-IT companies too came which recruited quite a number of them.

College Events

2.5

Extasy is the name of the technical and cultural festival that is celebrated annually at CET. A large amount of students from various colleges across Bhubaneswar attend this. Moreover, various branch festivals too were conducted during our time. The CS fest is called CynoSurE.

Fee Structure And Facilities

This being a government college, the fee structure of the college is very much affording. There is an extra 10K that was needed to be shelled out for CSE and IT branches making these self sufficient. All-in-all, the fee structure is very feasible in comparison.

Fees and Financial Aid

A scholarship of 4800 rupees was given to top 10% of the students. A loan facility can also be obtained if you submit your parents' salary certificate. It is given to poor students. But the fee is too less to worry much.

Campus Life

2.5

The hostel life is awesome. The peers are supposedly the best minds in the state. If the company is good, you can get to work wonders. Although the infrastructure is limited, the energy is high among students. So extracurriculars and other stuff can be developed. There is an active robotics club called Zairza.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostel facilities used be very limited since the hostel used to be away from college. Now the hostel is inside the college campus. The infrastructure has also enhanced. The mess food is way below standards. It is somehow edible. But, it is the case everywhere. So, nothing new in this point.

Alumni/Alumna

Recently there has been a lot of interaction between the alumni students. The network is quite good, it has to be said. The seniors will help whenever some one is stuck. The experience was surreal in my case.

Exam Structure

The exams were conducted in all seriousness although the students usually don't take the internal exams that seriously. The lab equipments are not sufficient and encouraging. Moreover, the lab sessions are quite minimal too. But the experience at labs are quite chilled out.

Faculty

2

The professors are highly qualified but quite less in number. Barring our HOD and a couple of other lecturers, none of them are professors by their qualification. Most of the lecturers are two to three years seniors from various private colleges. It is more than imperative that most students are self taught rather than relying on faculty to larger extent.

For csit the subjects kee changing accroding to the trendy stuffs that are currently going on but it was really hard to keep with that when all your subjects are changed and you have o idea or previous year qs to geta reference from. Exams are conducted continously with no gaps and its not a easy stuff students get lot of stress but still somehow manage.

Placement Experience:

I would rate the placements at my college as 3 out of 5. Students usually become eligible for campus placements from the sixth or seventh semester, and a few well-known companies do visit the campus every year. The placement cell helps with basic training like resume building and interviews, and many students, especially from IT branches, manage to secure jobs. At the same time, the average salary packages are not very high and top roles are limited, so a lot of students also focus on skill development, off-campus opportunities or higher studies after completing their degree

Students are eligible for placement from their 3rd year onwards. It has been only 2-3 months but I have seen several companies arriving at the college, prominent ones being Flipkar,Deloitte, Xerox, TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Microsoft, Dell and several others including startups. There is no accurate data on how many offers have been made this year, but there are rumours that more than 95% of the eligible students have got placements. After getting a degree my plans are if I dont land into a satisfying job then I will start my preparation of the military or start a new business.
