Entrance Preview

WBJEEE. Secured Rank 14446. I was very disappointed with my score but finally chose to opt for the engineering course with ECE stream as I often heard the rumour that ECE is the trending stream with high placements offered by companies. I had selected this college merely because its brochure cover picture seemed attractive with a bigger campus than its counterparts.

Course Curriculum Overview

2.5

There is no such college specific course structure. The academic syllabus is set by the West Bengal University of Technology (WBUT). The curriculum is nothing but a burden for students. As per my experience most students do late night preparations before their internals (These students would be handful) and semesters. The main books that students refer to are previous year solution papers (Organizers) and matrix.

Internships Opportunities

No. Forget about providing intern-ships, college even does encourage students to take intern ships at good companies or startups. This matters a lot during the placements and even after graduating from college. Most of the students don't get opportunity to grab some practical skills. The result being students becoming over-dependent on campussing programs.

Placement Experience

1.5

Placements are very ordinary. A handful of predictable companies come for placements. Hardly any company came to the college individually and most of the placements were group placements. We had to travel to other JIS group colleges to appear for placements. The average placement package offered is Rs 3 lakhs anually. The list of companies are TCS,CTS,ITC Infotech, Tech Mahindra. Most of the students got placed through off campussing or other WBUT group college placements.

College Events

2

We have a limited number of events taking place at our college. The events are college freshers, college fest, hostel freshers, hostel farewell, some small events like Teacher's day and other small cultural programs were often organized. The main college fest is the biggest event though it is one of the smallest fests if comapared with other colleges.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Fee structure of our college is quite feasible taking into consideration the fees at other private engineering institutions. We had a course fee of Rs 3,20,000 which we had to pay in eight equal installments as semester tuition fees. The current fee structure has gone up slightly. We additionally had to pay Rs 1000 as examination fees per semester. Hostel accommodation fees are charged extra. At our time(2014) hostel fees were around Rs 4000 per month.

Fees and Financial Aid

Scholarships are available for students (Both half and full tuition fee waiver). These are provided to merit listed students based on their previous academic results and their financial status. This facility is although poorly utilized and wrong students are awarded scholarships due to internal politics.

Alumni/Alumna

We never had any kind of interactions with successful merited alumni of our college. Personally I had interacted with many talented seniors mostly from my less at p.g.

Exam Structure

Exams never used to bother us. We had two semesters a year and two internals every semester. Practical exams used conducted before the semesters. We had labs almost daily. Some of the labs like computer labs, electrical and electronics labs were very interesting. Physics labs used to be the most strict lab.

Faculty

2

The quality of faculty is very much department specific. Some departments have extraordinary faculties while some have mostly M.Tech students passing out from these kind of colleges with hardly any knowledge. In my department Electronics and Communications, we had some awesome friendly faculties who motivated us a lot not only to pass the exams but become a better engineer and human being. Electrical and Computer science have better faculties than others.

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
