I opted for this course because I have always been a fan of Navy. Ships and oceans always fascinate me.I wanted to build my carrier here. The first time I got enchanted towards this field was through NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL(Mighty ships) episodes. Later on, I started gaining more and more information through the internet. There are broadly two ways of getting into merchant navy i.e Navigating officer & Engine officer. Specifically, I chose engine side because of my interest in Mechanical Engineering. Also the engineering side has more perks and benefits onboard a ship.

Regarding the course syllabus, I would say it was not fully updated. they just follow DG shipping syllabus basics. Marine engineering knowledge syllabus was good but electrical, electronics and Motor engineering practices syllabus were not up to the mark.yes you will get enough industrial exposures like ship visit and plant visit, port tour etc.There are some very good chief engineers, 2nd engineers and captains. Their experience will help you a lot to grow in this field. My favorite faculties; chief engineer ANBAZHAGAN, KL MANGESH, CENGG RAJSH & 2ND ENGG ARAVIND.

Placement is not good. Engineering side only 10-15 students get placement.3-4 companies are there for campus but they are very good company from japan and Singapore. Here are the names , kline , MOL, APEEJAY for engineers FLEET, SUNMAR, in addition for deck side.

Yearly they conduct a National Level Conference. Participants from top maritime colleges comes here. Its good and high-level platforms. You can see top personalties of the field here as chief guests.Also they conduct inter & intra college sports competition. Also college encourages students to take part in NAUTICA (Maritime carnival) an event by offing.

Campus infrastructure is basic, not much facilities are provided. You got a small playground. wifi is not provided. Library facility is just okay, not many books are available. The electrical and electronics lab lacks equipment. Mechanical workshop is good. No cafeteria and canteen. Hostel mess is of good class. Food is healthy and hygienic.

Hostel is compulsory. One room will accommodate 4 persons. The rooms are big and cozy. You will get your personal cupboard, study table and bed, chair. Common bathroom for all. Cleanliness is good. Laundryman comes twice a week.
