Only three colleges offer Political Science in Chennai. Moreover, my college has been accredited consistently as one of the top 10 educational institutions for arts and science. This year however it slipped down in the ranking. Although it's best college for arts and science in Chennai.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum changes once in 5 years as per UGC guidelines. They are up to date and difficulty level would be medium. As far as academics is concerned the college emphasises on knowledge of a student rather than rote learning. The faculty in our department currently are all a product of our college itself. They are qualified and are very student friendly. We currently have 11 professors in the department. We also have frequent guest lectures organized by the department.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are made mandatory for students of certain disciplines like Statistics, Commerce and Business Administration to expose them to the working environment. Humanities students aren't asked to take up internships as there are hardly any.
Placement Experience
As it's an arts and science college the placement happens vigorously for the B. Com, BBA, Journalism, BCA and a few other departments. All the departments do not have placement opportunities. The companies that visit are Accenture, Amazon, Wipro, Aditya Birla, Zoho among other leading firms.
College Events
Students choose to join MCC because of the campus life. There are events organized frequently. The first cultural fest to be organized every year is the college audition exclusively for freshers however it's open to other students as well to identify new talent. Students represent their departments or their hostels(halls) if they are part of one. The college cultural fest is known as Deepwoods and happens once in a year for 3 days. College student from different institutions across India participate. Apart from this many departments also host their own cultural fests. The 6 hostels in MCC known as halls have a hall day of their own and is open only to MCCians. The halls also have a distinctive fest with DJ nights and other things which happens for a day open to anyone. Sports is also given importance. A sport meet is also held. Apart from this the departments compete with each other in various games to emerge as the winner.
Campus Life
The infrastructure in the college is commendable. Though being a very old institution, it has indulged in renovation work to revive the infrastructure. The classrooms aren't withered or very old. They are very much usable. Journalism and media studies department has the best of infrastructure. In addition to this there's a library with Wi-Fi facility and is spread over two floors, computer centre, internet centre, student's centre(cafeteria) and also a women's lounge.
