Remarks
NIT Silchar is an institute of national importance in which we get admission based on our ranks in an entrance, so that was the institute I got through the entrance. Morever, it is in the same state as my residence, further the overall NIRF ranking is very good. NIT Silchar ranks 7th among all the NITs in India and the placement statistics is also very good with an average of 7 - 8 LPA for Computer Science graduate.
Course Curriculum Overview
The current syllabus taught to us provide complete industrial exposures. We are taught the most recent of technologies to keep us up-to-date with the industrial world. The faculties, however, focuses more on research based studies rather than industrial training, but the void is filled by the students themselves and obviously, the various technical clubs of the college. The faculties of my department assigns us projects that help us to learn the concepts better along with understanding how those concepts are applied in real world scenarios.
Internships Opportunities
Till now, I have not opted for any internship, but eagerly waiting to get one and start working
Placement Experience
A lot of companies visit the college for software development. The alumni network is also quiet strong as most of the alumni are in respectable positions in famous companies. Morever, a few PSUs also visit the campus. The placement process depends on the company and is done as per their rules.
College Events
Every year the college organises the annual-technical fest - Tecnoesis. There are various events taking place during the three days of fest and students from different colleges come to participate in the competitions. The annual cultural fest - Incandescence is one of the largest cultural fest of north-east india. Various celebrities visit the campus in this period to perform. The participation is national level. Morever, the localities participate in huge numbers in both the fest. Alongwith this, the college also organises various sports events, drives and competitions. The participation is huge in such contest, students from other NITs and colleges come to participate. The institute has also been the host for Anveshan.
Fees and Financial Aid
I'm currently on an educational loan and the process is very simple. The college has a bank inside which willingly provides the loan provided we have the required documents. Morever, the accounts department also ensures that the students don't face much difficulty and the scholarships are transferred to them on time.
Campus Life
The campus is spread over 650 acres of land with proper facilities of hostels, mess, library and other basic amenities. The institute has the Asia's largest digital library and it also has a Super computing center. The entire institute has LAN (Ethernet) connectivity and Wi--fi connectivity in some buildings with an average speed of 100 MBps. The labs are well equipped with all the instruments to make the students familiar with the recent technologies.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel are well equipped with all the facilites. Each room has a capacity of 2 students with separate beds, study tables, almirah for each student. All the hostels and LAN and/or Wi-Fi connectivity. The washrooms are neat and clean and are washed every day. The hostel food is also quiet satisfactory. The hostel charges are a minimum of 1000rs per semester. However, the mess charges are 15500 per semester.
