Hritam Mukherjee's Review On St. Xavier's College - [SXC], Kolkata

St Xavier's College is one of the pioneer educational institutions in the state. It is known for its regulation and discipline. It's repute for producing gems of individuals as alumni speaks a lot about it.

My course and my department both are very well equipped with knowledge and expertise. Our professors have been industry professionals and been part of award-winning projects. My course is very centric to Film and filmology and whatever industrial exposure we students get are completely from the internships that we search for ourselves in semester breaks. Apart from that we also had masterclasses and day-long-panel-discussions on various topics related to the course and the industry.

I have had interned at many organisations, it's not possible to write so many here. I have been a trainee web journalist and editor at premium media houses. They were unpaid.

The placements and job opportunities after graduation or post graduation is very good. My departmental seniors have been employed at various media and production houses nationwide. Our Alumni is a huge extended family who is a treasure of successful men and women.

The Students Council, elected by students of the college, is an active body that hosts all-year-round events like Xavier's Premier League and Xavotsav. Each department organises its own one day or two day events which are held at the Auditorium or at any of the seminar halls. We also have a range of societies, covering a spectrum of extracurricular interests, who have one or two events scheduled throughout the year. Our college being a Jesuit institution celebrates Christmas with great vigour and enthusiasm. The Chief Minister of our state is called and carols are sung in the auditorium followed by high tea at the quadrangle. The campus life is good yet the authorities put a lot of strictness on punctuality of students. I have been a part of the students council and I have actively participated in all its fests. I am also an active member of the Bengali Literary Society and had been to Silchar for one of its exchange programmes on the occasion of International Mother Language Day.

Our campus is well equipped with a lot of facilities. Our library is a vast one and one can almost find everything that one may be interested in. It has a wide selection of genres and topics, books and publications. My college boasts of a huge green field on which inter-college inter-department sports events, annual sports, bonfire in winter are organised. WiFi is also available in campus, although it needs to paid for separately. Our department's labs and studios are spacious and have the top-notch equipments. Although our department is fully air-conditioned, not the entire college is.
