Remarks
Situated in the tera region of Uttarakhand gb puat pantnagar is a university that needs no introduction. It was a pioneer of the green revolution in India. Many notable alumni from the institution have made a mark on the world map in various fields. Coming to the present scenario there are boundless opportunities for you even if you are not a typical nerd who is solely into academics, the institute provides ample opportunities to help you explore you passions. The entrance exam is held every year and close to 25k students appear for it, out of which the top 400 (approx.) are eligible for the B.Sc. hons agriculture program. There are 8 colleges under this institution imparting education in various fields such as veterinary science, home science, management, engineering etc. One major constraint is the entry timing for girls. U will find yourself falling in love with the awesome views the place has to offer, just the occasional odors for the nearby paper factory, but one gets used to it.
Course Curriculum Overview
One major reason I went on to choose this course is because of the reputation the institution holds. The faculty student ration might not be appreciable but they are highly qualified and trained. Most of them hold a PhD degree. Sometimes we face trouble with the speech of the professors owing to heavy accents of their mother tongue in their language but then again you will get used to it. Professors are not at all lenient when it comes to marks or your social conduct. People here can sometimes be a little too nosy in your business. Exams are taken very seriously and the campus goes into deadly silence when exams are around the corner. One can score decent marks if they focus well in the classes and have proper notes.
Internships Opportunities
Awesome opportunities for internship and the college itself offers many internship offers to the students. Various agri based industries are more than eager to offer internship opportunities to the students. The course has in built internship in the form of RAWE and PCP which provides students opportunity to earn while learning.
Placement Experience
The placements are good but very few students out for placements since most students opt for other paths like banking, MBA, upsc, masters etc. The packages offered this year went upto 8 lakh which is a fair amount with a mere bachelors degree. With the introduction of a dedicated placement cell the placements have improved tremendously. I plan to pursue masters from abroad after the completion of my degree.
Fees and Financial Aid
Minimal fee hike, if there is any. Affordable even foe the lower middle class families. Ample number of scholarships available. Hostel fee, mess charges tuition fee, everything can be covered under 1 lakh per year. Owing to the agricultural surroundings you will never be short of fresh fruit or veggies supply. The nearby weekly market will be your go to place for the next 4 years if you choose to enroll into this course however, don't expect your college life to be too happening in terms of outings especially if you are a girl.
Campus Life
Since there are 8 colleges, fests and activities go on throughout the year, there was never a dull moment in my two years of college life owing to the fact that I am a jack of all trades. Various societies and clubs host events and activities round the year to help keep you sane amidst the drudgery of field visits , work program and hectic college schedule. Vivekananda swadhyay Mandal, Chetan, D2C club, agriculture society, vet society and many more such societies are there to enhance your co curricular skills. Sports facilities are top notch with a dedicated stadium for various sports such as badminton , TT, hockey, cricket, tennis, volleyball etc.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are fine, you will find library and gym equipment's in the hostel. The entry timings for girls are not reasonable though. The room are okayish. The room come furnished with a bed and a study table and a chair. Bathrooms and toilets are in good numbers and on every wing so no troubles there. Don't expect much since it's a government college. The food is good, better than how my friends describe their mess food, the staff there is friendly. registration process for hiatal is not cumbersome. Dogs and monkeys are a menace though.
