Remarks
Browsing the internet as to which college would be best suited for me after I graduated from school, I chanced upon Heramba Chandra College. Initially, I was skeptical of the kind of environment I would be in but found that I was not feeling lost at all. From helpful bhaiyaas(senior students and union students) to caretaking basis(security staff), everybody made me feel at home once again. I was not missing my school anymore. The teachers of the English department where i was a student, were exceptionally kind and helpful to the students. initial difficulties were resolved with smiles and tireless explaining. Anybody wanting to opt for the same in this college would be making the right decision. however, the politicized union makes ragging a serious issue but teachers are there to provide aid.
Course Curriculum Overview
I opted for an undergraduate in English Literature. Initially it may seem a bit difficult because the History of English LIterature occupies a large portion of the syllabus but thanks to helpful and guiding teachers like Lily Law, Sudeshna Bose, Amrapali Bose, Ranjan Auddy, and Sumit Naskar and their tireless effort at making the subject in its entirety lucid to the students, the course, barring few initial hiccups, seems to run smoothly. To review by the abovementioned cues 1) I chose this course to explore the domain of English literature. British and others. 2) Out of a total of 27 to 28 students in every batch, there are five teachers. 3) Highly qualified teachers. 4) Term exams were held as per the college calendar and passing would require a minimum of 40%.
Placement Experience
The college ties up with various companies that visit the college every year to counsel students regarding job oppurtunities on completion of the course. the college has its self run career counselling unit to guide students aspiring for placements. Placements are quite high. Approx. 90% students get placement every year. haven't thought of any future plan after completion of my course.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are feasible. Keeping in view the financial backgrounds of the students, the fees are set at a minimum of Rs.8500. I do not have many ideas about the scholarship to be offered, but there are indeed some subsidies provided to underprivileged yet meritorious students. Every year, the college invites career counselors to provide students with wide-ranging opportunities for jobs. Campus placements are notably high too. The college has its self-run career counseling unit to show aspiring students the path.
Campus Life
1) Freshers' Party is held every year amidst a lot of fun to welcome the freshmen on the campus. It is called Aura. It is conducted every July. 2) Libraries are well stocked with books pertaining to the subject but access to other books on other topics is limited to a few. The lack of storybooks makes it a boring place. Only books pertaining to subjects taught. 3) Annual Sports Meet is commendable. Prizes have been won. The college has produced and is producing quite a number of budding sportsmen and women in a variety of sports from soccer, cricket to athletics.
