IP College for Women, Bachelors in Mass Media and Mass Communication (Hons.)

Remarks

The college topped in all aspects in providing the mass communication students the studio and equipment facilities. One thing that always touched my heart was the facilities for the PWD/blind students. The college infrastructure makes sure they are comfortable and self-reliant all the time.

Entrance Preview

IP College for Women is known best for its BMMMC course, the course which I pursued. Thousands of students flock in from different states to seek admission to this course. The college held its independent entrance exam during my time. It was a two-tier exam. First one was objective and second, subjective. It declared about 5 cut-off lists and I was amidst the lucky ones to get selected. There was no GD/PI round. Students were selected by their performance in entrance exam.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

There were about 4-6 subjects in each semester. The curriculum was well-designed, giving us sufficient knowledge about each subject. Equal emphasis was put on theory and practical subjects. The best part was its huge in-house studio and newly-built editing lab.

Internships Opportunities

No, we were not provided with any internship by the college. Students had to connect with different companies themselves.

Placement Experience

2.5

There were a few TV channels that had come for campus placements. A few of my friends got through them as well. I don't remember the company names precisely, but there were definitely no dearth of job options. Today, my friends and I work with some of the top companies across the globe.

College Events

3.5

Shruti' was the main fest of our college. It generally happened in January, It was a time of Famous bands and food stalls. And of course, the time when boys were allowed to enter the premises. The college was also active in organizing other events such as sports day, seminars, movie screenings etc.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee for my course was almost INR 60,000/- per year. This was a little too much in comparison with other courses. Although the facilities provided to the students of my course were exceptional too, but still the fee seemed to be a topic of concern for all of us.

Fees and Financial Aid

Students were awarded scholarships in huge numbers. They were recognized for their hardwork and were felicitated on the college day.Students belonging to the economically weaker sections were eligible for fee concession. Merit cum means based scholarships were also awarded by the college to deserving students.

Campus Life

5

It is an all-girls college, so no question of gender ratio. The student:teacher ratio was 30:1. The college was very active in organising competitions and promoting its different societies. We had the best dance and street-play societies, that earned many accolades.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The college holds two hostels, the Kalavati Gupta Hostel (KG Hostel), on its campus and the Indraprastha College Women's Hostel (IP Hostel), across the road opposite the College. I didn't stay in the hostel so, I dont really know about the facilities. As far as the canteen was concerned, it served delicious food. Students had wide variety of options to choose from.

Alumni/Alumna

The interaction with my juniors and seniors was not much, since everyone was busy completing their own assignments and projects.

Exam Structure

The exam structure was decent and reasonable. There were two main exams, half-yearly and finals. Along with these, there were small small 20 marks exams during the course of the programme. Equal weight age was given to theory and practical subjects. The balance between the two was very well designed.

Faculty

4

The faculty consisted of both, permanent and visiting teachers. Our teachers were motivating and friendly. Barring a few of them, others were well-versed with the subject. They were always on time and made sure that the syllabus was completed within the time frame.

The placement cell of our college is functional and active. The chances depend on the course that you have opted for. The placements are really good for commerce, economics, Maths, Stats but for the other department's students it might be a bit challenging to find a company of their domain. The students become eligible to sit in placement from 5th semester. The companies that visit my college are Godrej, BCG, McKinsey, Nation with Namo, Blackstone, Accenture, KPMG, EY, citibank, microsoft and Amazon etc.

Journalism was first introduced in Delhi University at DCAC. The amazing faculty and a proper media studio makes Delhi College of Arts and Commerce a perfect choice for Jouranlism aspirants. The media studio has professional mics, green screen, cameras, teleprompter, switcher and other equipment required for real life learning. The classes are full-fledged, sometimes irregular. Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate my course four out of five because in journalism is a field where people are not about so much. The main stream media does not show the real problems and challengs of the country. They live in a bubble of their own. Many of the times they provide miss information to the people which hurts the hearts of the people. They do not cover multiple aspects of media. The exams in the daj is not so hard you can easily pass it by just 4 to 5 days of preparation.
