Remarks

THE GOOD PART The college has a good reputation overall. As compared to other colleges it has better faculties. In 2017 St. Xavier's College was one of the few autonomous colleges in Mumbai(Now many more ave become autonomous). The best part of St. Xavier's is that you will have students coming from all over India over here, thus there is diversity in culture. Apart from academics, you will build many soft skills over here such as communication skills, leadership etc. Batch size is small so the bonding with professors is very good. You can contact them at any time, they are very supportive. It is a very inclusive campus so you will never feel left alone over here. Sports and Extracurricular activities are supported a lot at Xavier's. THE DOWNSIDES If you are someone scoring in higher 90s and expecting a lot (academically) then you might get a bit disappointed. The syllabus is not very rigorous and not much research takes place. However, you will be encouraged if you want to.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The course curriculum is not very rigorous. The curriculum is neither an application-oriented one. The curriculum is a simple research/academics oriented curriculum. However, the college will arrange for courses, workshops and guest lectures for you to enhance your application skills of the subject. FACULTY The student-faculty ratio varies from year to year and subject to subject. It may range from 1:60 to 1:30 for statistics. The student-professor bonding is very good over here. The faculties are very supportive, friendly and liberal. You can contact the faculty whenever you want to. Qualification: All of them have at least a masters degree. Some hold MPhil and PhD qualification. EXAMS there are 2 in-term exams and one final exam every semester. The questions asked in the exams are from whatever is taught in the classroom. It is not difficult to pass statistics exams. Hardly 1-2 students have KT in statistics. Few students get KT in Maths papers which they easily clear afterwards

Internships Opportunities

3

The college placement cell will provide details of various internships available. However, companies do not come over to the college to hire interns. You will have to apply and get an internship by yourself. The placement cell will provide assistance with the same.

Placement Experience

4.5

The college has a placement cell. Many reputed companies like McKinsey, EY, Citi Bank, Bain, PwC, AT Kerney, Times Internet etc visit the campus every year for placements. Highest package is around INR 15 LPA(ATKerney & Citi Bank), Avg around 5 LPA and lowest around 3 LPA. (Numbers are not official numbers). 30-40% of students who sit for placement get placed (This is my observation, not official numbers) Some students choose to go abroad to pursue their masters. I continued masters within India.

Fees and Financial Aid

The BSc course is an Aided course and thus the fees are nominal. The fees may vary from 5000 to 9000 per year depending upon subject and year of study. Scholarship opportunities from the Government will be displayed on the notice board. The college has a student beneficiary fund to help the needful and deserving students. The college provided financial assistance to one of my friend in my batch. The college has no on-campus job for students with a stipend for financial help. Hostel and living expenses will be higher as the college is located in the southern part of Mumbai where real estate rates are very high. Fees like is usually 5-8% annually (This is based on my observation, there is no prescribed policy for fees hike)

Campus Life

5

The college will definitely rank in the top 10 in India in this aspect. CAMPUS AND INFRASTRUCTURE The campus is not too big but the structure is magnificent. You can see the college in many movies and TV series (Vaaste song, Hichki, Kabir Singh, Sacred Games and many more). There are adequate facilities on campus. One of the major downsides is that we don't have a big dedicated sports ground. The Quadrangle is available for playing sports but there are restrictions. SOCIAL LIFE & EXTRACURRICULARS You will have the best social life over here. There are at least 5-6 fests in college every year( Including malhar: google it out). There are many clubs run by students- Social service league, AICUF, DIRS are few of them. Every department has their own club (Stats society, Eco circle etc). Sports is also supported a lot here, we have a sports day every year. You can check my Quora for more info as I have run out of word limit, and the list is endless

Interview Experience

5

There is a counselling session for assigning the desired subject combination and in-person verification of the student and documents. No subject related questions or personal questions are asked in this counselling session.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose Biotechnology because it is a multidisciplinary field. We get to study not only topics related to biotechnology but also biochemistry, bio physics, bio informatics, bio statistics, etc. Mostly everything that is essential for future exams is taught during the span of 3 years. The topics of the units are taught in depth but the questions asked during exams are comparatively easy as to what all we studied. The frequency of the exam is, 1 internal exam which consists of both mcqs and written exam, the semester exam for each semester and practical exams for each subject. If u have studied then you will be able to attempt the questions.

Placement Experience:

My college gives campus placement placement opportunities typically after 4th semester, which is the 2nd half of the 2nd year. As my college has a partnership with IBM so the standards of campus placement go right up as the placement depends on the curriculum performance of the student so can't really say much for this. If saying as a stalemate, getting a placement is basically confirmed if the student maintains his/her CGPA of 6-7, which shows the consistent of the student in their field.
