Remarks

The college and the management have been very supportive. They have not yet given us a chance to complain about anything. The college works in a systematic way and is taken care of by the management very well.

Entrance Preview

CET - with pcb subject combination apart from other self-financing courses like microbiology and biotechnology, biochemistry is offered by our college. I chose it because it interests me. The admission process was clean, simple and fast going. It It was clearly an online admission process wherein the students were chosen only on their merit bases.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

The course curriculum is extravagant. We have 6 semesters across the 3 Years. In the 3rd year we have 5 papers and 1 applied component. The pattern of teaching is as per MUMBAI UNIVERSITY. Apart from the regular teaching our teachers focus on research too. Every year students take part in Aavishakaar fest (organised by KEM HOSPITAL) , students are taken to field trips, guest lectures and seminars are organised, and much more.

Internships Opportunities

Most of the stipends are unpaid considering that we are students and we are hear to learn not to earn but yes there are options available to all. No particular company as such is related to the biochemistry department but all of us students do our internships at various pathological labs, hospitals, etc. A variety of internships a re email offered to the commerce students via the college.

Placement Experience

4

The placement and job offers vary. It all depends on ones interest and capability. A variety of companies come to the college like various pharmaceuticals, pathological labs, etc. But it is only after MSc. As a student of BSc I Don't have much idea of the payment schemes.

College Events

5

Various events and fests are held at Mithibai and our college is known for it. We have departmental fests like luminescence (biochem) with a participation of around 300 students. We have sapataparni, biotechnova ,nisarg and many other fests with a participation of 150 each. Then comes our non-academic fests like Kshitij and coloseum, intercollegiate fests with a participation of more than 5000 students.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee structure is detailed and explanatory. I paid a fee of rs. 14000 last year a day rs. 13500 this year which includes the examination fee, library fee, annual academic fee, laboratory usage fee, the fee for the things that college provides( sanitation, etc), academic fee, tuition fee, computer fee, gymkhana fee, maintenance fee, staff fee.

Fees and Financial Aid

Our college has a lot of scholarships and loan facility too is available. There are scholarships for highest marks overall, highest marks in a particular subject, for the disabled, for the underprivileged, etc.

Campus Life

5

We have a lot of workshops related to women development cell, on campus ragging, etc. Every year our college organises sports day,and various competitions like debates and elocution, robotics, etc are a part of the fests. We have various extra curricular like drama, dance, literary arts, speech, etc. Gender ratio=1:1 talking about our overall campus life, including the labs too, of course being a science student, is awesome.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The college is under SVKM and it provides separate hostels for boys and girls. No much idea as I am a Mumbai resident. Hearing from my friends who stay in the hostel I can say that the infrastructure , the food provided, sanitation facilities , communication facilities,Internet facilities, games and sport facilities , etc . After hearing from my friends it clearly indicates that the hostel facilities are very good.

Alumni/Alumna

Yes our alumni come forward every year during luminescence, interact with us,guide us on what courses can be taken up. Senior students help us to take up topics and understand them in a better way.

Exam Structure

The exam pattern is good we have internal (short exams) before every main semester exam . This helps us to understand the topics and get our debts saved before the main exams. The lab schedules are awesome . We enjoy doing our practicals and they get over within 1.5 hours. We attend college for not more than 5-5.5 hours which is average for any college student I feel.

Faculty

4.5

We have 5 teachers currently in the biochemistry department. Each teacher is determined ,helpful and encouraging. We have teachers qualified from different parts of the country sharing their personal experiences from the past. The teachers use various presentations, and the lab equipment which help us understand the topic better.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I chose Biotechnology because it is a multidisciplinary field. We get to study not only topics related to biotechnology but also biochemistry, bio physics, bio informatics, bio statistics, etc. Mostly everything that is essential for future exams is taught during the span of 3 years. The topics of the units are taught in depth but the questions asked during exams are comparatively easy as to what all we studied. The frequency of the exam is, 1 internal exam which consists of both mcqs and written exam, the semester exam for each semester and practical exams for each subject. If u have studied then you will be able to attempt the questions.

Placement Experience:

My college gives campus placement placement opportunities typically after 4th semester, which is the 2nd half of the 2nd year. As my college has a partnership with IBM so the standards of campus placement go right up as the placement depends on the curriculum performance of the student so can't really say much for this. If saying as a stalemate, getting a placement is basically confirmed if the student maintains his/her CGPA of 6-7, which shows the consistent of the student in their field.
