Remarks
Being a JEE aspirant, I studied very hard for JEE MAINS and ADVANCED but I couldn't score well enough to get into top NITs and IITs so the only option that remained was going for state colleges. College of Engineering, Pune also known as COEP being the top most Institute for engineering in Maharashtra I decided to go for it. The entrance through which we can get admission in Maharashtra state Colleges is MHT-CET which is quite easy for JEE aspirants.
Course Curriculum Overview
Branch selection in engineering is the most important thing. If you have interest in a specific branch and you're sure to pursue career in that, well and good but if you're not sure and then choose your branch according to your needs for eg. If you just a need a good package then obviously go for Computer branch, where you can get a handsome salary but if you have specific interests like interests in electrical then please don't look at the package. Go for Electrical, score well and you still have a good package. Regarding COEP (If your branches are not confirmed). Don't go for production, Mettulurgy, or Civil branch of COEP. If you're an UPSC aspirant, you can take COEP Civil. Usually computer, electronics and instrumentation branch get very good package. So If you're getting any of these three branches take them. Curriculum is nicely planned, faculties are good(self study is the best option though) in all the branches.
Placement Experience
For placements cleary go for: 1. COEP computer engineering(90%). 2. COEP EnTC engineering(85%). 3. COEP Instrumentation and control engineering(90%). In mechanical though amt. of package is high, no of students placed are low(60%). So you must be very good in academics if you're a COEP mechanical student. Don't go for production, Mettulurgy, or Civil branch of COEP. If you're an UPSC aspirant, you can take COEP Civil.
College Events
Life in campus is very cool. There are many clubs, fests in the college. It gives you a chance to pursue your passion and your interests other than academics.
Fee Structure And Facilities
You have MahaDBT portal scholarship if you belong to any of the above category. If you're from OPEN category and financially weak you have EWS scholarship and in college too various private scholarship programmes are conducted which prove really helpful for financially weak students. Since I'm a second year student I can't comment on the jobs and internships. I haven't opted for them yet.
Hostel Facilities
For getting Hostel accommodation in COEP you again need very good rank. Generally all girls get accomodated in the hostel but competition for boys is tough so yes for college hostel you need to get very good marks.There are PGs, hostels and flats nearby if you don't get college hostel accommodation you can stay there.Hostel is pretty good, ignoring the water scarcity problem.
