Remarks
I decided to attend college because of its brand value & alumni network of over 33 years. Also, I would say the best way to know about a college will be to contact the current students or recent graduates of the college; which I had also done. After discussing with some people from both categories; I find the college a decent one. So I decided to join here. Now coming to bad aspects of the college; the batch strength is 360; which is huge. Also, the course fee is 20.3 lakhs (only course fee) for the 2 years duration & it'll be around 22 lakhs overall including hostel & mess fees. If you include your own expenses; the cost will be even more (like the 22 lakhs you'll be paying to the college authorities straight away). & competition in placements is high due to the huge batch size. Now coming to the admission process, the college accepts CAT, XAT, GMAT & X-GMT scores & the GD-PI rounds happen throughout the country mostly in the month of Feb-March. Course Curriculum Overview
MBA in BM is the flagship course offered by XIMB in PG & all other courses of the university are under different institutes of the university & not under XIMB. So I have chosen the flagship course. The course curriculum is good here & the institute follows the trimester structure. There are 3 trimesters each year totalling it to 6 in 2 years. The student-faculty ratio is around 1:15 & some good faculties are also there. 4 specialization offered by the institute is namely marketing, finance, operation & systems; from which you can choose to specialize in your 2nd year. In the first term, various courses from all the fields are taught to give you an idea about all of them; which can also help you choose your specs. in the 2nd year. Many faculties are highly qualified such as PHDs etc. & teaching methodology is also okay. Regarding exams, end terms happen at the end of the term for all the subjects & it is not difficult to get good marks if you listen in the class properly & revise them timely.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies come here for summer placement recruitment; some of them includes Loreal, Deloitte, TCS, Tata Steel, Cognizant, Capgemini etc & many startups also come offering roles in finance, sales & marketing, consulting etc. So summers placement is decent too with an average stipend of around 78K / 2 months period.
Placement Experience
Placements are good here. But there is a lot of competition due to the huge batch size. A good number of companies visit every year final placements & some prominent names include Deloitte, TCS, Tata steel, KPMG, Infosys among others. You can read about the avg. package etc on our Placement report & every year 100% placements is achieved in the final placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are around 22 lakhs (including everything) for 2 years apart from your own expenses for 2 years which is quite high w.r.t colleges of the same tier. There are very fewer scholarships available from the college side & not much corporate scholarship is provided. So you mostly need to bear the cost on your own. Regarding financial assistance, you can get loans from almost all the banks to pay the fees(interest rate may vary from year-to-year). So it can be taken care of. In campus jobs, every year the institute achieves 100 % placement with some good recruiters also coming to the campus. You can talk to recent graduates to know more about it & can also go through the official placement report for the same.
Campus Life
The campus is at the centre of Bhubaneswar which is the capital city of the state of Odisha & it is well connected to all the metro & big cities of the country via railways & airways. The campus is green & nice. Regarding committees; there is a total of 19 committees apart from the student executive council & students can choose to be part of any of the committees based on their goals & interest. Out of them, some important committees are the placement committee (CAS), exemplar (the competition committee) etc. The institute also boasts of a good library with thousands of books & access to many reputed journals; which are quite helpful. Regarding classrooms; they are well equipped with projectors. The campus is fully wifi enabled (though the speed is not quite good; but it's ok). Regarding sports, a dedicated sports committee is there & you can various sports such as cricket, football, volleyball, basketball, badminton, chess, TT etc as per your own interests.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel is mandatory here & you've to opt for it irrespective of your location. There are many hostels for both boys & girls & all the hostels are within the campus. Out of them, GR 1 is the oldest one. In GR 1; though the rooms are a bit small; but all single rooms are there. So if you want privacy it'll be good for you. In the first year; the rooms will be randomly allocated, but in 2nd year you'll have the option of choosing your room. So you can choose accordingly. The food at the mess is good & quite healthy too & the price is reasonable too (at least I feel so). regarding the regd. process, you need to pay for the hostels while paying the course fee & automatically the regd. will be done. Single room charges - 52k/year & sharing room - 42k/year.
Interview Experience
The admission is of 2 rounds i.e 1. the written exams & 2. GD-PI-WAT round. After you clear the written round, you need to clear the second round of admission to get a seat. For this, you need to be present at the designated slot & place as mentioned by the institute (you'll get all this info via mail if you get a call). Regarding GDs, during my time, almost all GD topics are based on current affairs, some economy related topics & few abstract topics. So you can prepare on these topics to have an edge over others & WAT topic is also the same as GD i.e you need to write about what was discussed in the GD. Then for PI, I was asked about myself, about my workex, some gk questions & some from my undergrad subjects despite having 2.5 years of workex. So if you're it's better to prepare for at least 1 subject from your undergrad before the interviews if you have a workex of more than 1.5 years. Others need to prepare on some subjects from their undergrad for sure. Hope it helps .
