Pros of college - Good facilities, infrastructure, discipline, Library, cleanliness, etc. Cons of college - lack of practical knowledge as compared to theory classes. Poor supply of instruments for scientific experiments, classrooms are not upgraded Admission process: fully merit-based scores in board exams are considered for admission.No entrance exam needed. Also, priority is given to Aggregate scores (e.g.PCMB/PCB/PCM). References: Shiksha portal, Google, Quora.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course due to the huge scope and liking for Biotechnology.Kelkar college is one of the best colleges recognized in the Mumbai suburban region with a "star college scheme" status of one of 4 colleges in Mumbai by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) of the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. It has NAAC A grade accreditation. It became Autonomous in the year 2020. The faculty-student ratio is 5/30 i.e 1/6. So faculty needs to be improved. Students batch size for 1 year is 30 students. B.Sc Biotechnology course is a 3 years full-time degree course . All the faculties are well experienced with Doctorates and many publications with specialization in Molecular Biology, Immunology, Molecular Microbiology, Botany, Biochemistry, Plant Biotechnology, etc.
Placement Experience
No placements, highly disappointed. They have a Scientific research center & Perfumery lab along with Greenhouse & Plant tissue culture lab. I am planning to do Masters in Biotechnology abroad preferably in Europe & UK.
Fees and Financial Aid
Average fees per year are 30,000 Rs. However, at the end of the year, miscellaneous charges are to be paid like lab breakage fees ranging from about 200-600 Rs. per semester. also, the fees can be paid via installments. There was no relaxation given for the academic year 2020-2021 due to COVID-19 and the fees was the same as the previous year, Israni scholarship & T.N Venkateshan scholarship or students.No placements or internships given
Campus Life
Dimensions are the annual fest in college and very famous in collegians of entire Mumbai. Good library & good collection of books but the only thing is limited book copies available to read in spite of findings from, UGC and University. Classrooms have projector facilities and a whiteboard. Gymnasium and sports events conducted in college.Groups like Science Association, Vithee Vaze, Students Council, Cultural committee, IQUAC, G.D Kelakr skill development.
