Remarks
Haldia Institute of Technology is one of the oldest private engineering colleges in West Bengal. It is also one of the best private engineering colleges in WB. One can take admission in HIT through WBJEE or JEE(Main) exam. You can also take direct admission through management quota. HIT has a fairly large campus of approximately 35 acres. But HIT is situated in east Midnapore which is far away from Kolkata. Also the railway transport system is not good here in Haldia, you have to depend on local private or government buses for transportation.
Course Curriculum Overview
The best departments in HIT are CSE, IT, ECE, Food Technology and Chemical Engineering. In HIT most of the faculty members are highly educated, most of them are post-graduated and some of them are PhD holders. The teacher: student ratio in HIT is approximately 60:1. Though some of the faculties are very good at teaching, most of them give extremely boring lectures in the class. In HIT there is an internal exam almost every month and you can score very good in them if you follow the class lectures.
Internships Opportunities
The on-campus internship opportunity is very limited in HIT. But can obviously go for an off-campus internship. For an off-campus internship, you can visit some websites like Internshala, LinkedIn and many other websites that are present nowadays.
Placement Experience
The campus placement is decent. Mainly service-oriented tech companies come here during placement and you can crack them easily. Very few core companies come here. Almost 60-70% of students of CSE, IT, ECE, CHEMICAL, FOOD TECHNOLOGY got placed during campusing. The tech companies generally give a package of around 3-6 lacs.
Fees and Financial Aid
The total cost of b.tech is approximately 3.95 lacs(without hostel fees) and 4.95 lacs with hostel fees. Hostel fees only include room rents. The fees are increased by about 5-10% in every one or two years. You can get tuition fees waiver through wbjee counselling. You can also get an SVMCM scholarship from the West Bengal government.
Campus Life
The campus life is very good in HIT. The classrooms of HIT are big enough and the labs are well equipped. The central library is one of the great things in HIT, here you can get all kinds of books necessary for semester exams and also for the gate, UPSC. In HIT there are two football grounds, a basketball court and also a gym. The annual tech fest of HIT is PRAYUKTI and the cultural fest is RIVIERA which is generally organised in march-April.
Hostel Facilities
In HIT there are separate hostels for boys and girls. There is also a hostel for foreign students. You have to share rooms with two or three of your friends but the rooms are big enough to accommodate three or four people. Every student is given a single bed and a table and chair. The food of mess is decent and the rates are pocket friendly. You can easily get a hostel room during admission to the college. You can also opt fot PG which you can easily find near the college and the rent is also similar.
