Remarks
The primary reason for me choosing BIMTECH was the proximity to my house. It is one of the good colleges in Delhi NCR to pursue an MBA from (amongst the two-tier colleges). I filled the college admission form around Nov 2019, before that CAT exam. It cost around Rs.2000 An average score of anywhere above 70 percentile in CAT, XAT, or CMAT would be the first qualifying criteria after which selected students will be given a call for PI. The PI and Written test happened online for many students, after March 2020. However, I was fortunate enough to give mine in February before the lockdown started. The lushgreen campus, well-maintained lawns, statues of the Buddha and machaans, good infrastructure, and washrooms are bound to impress anyone who visits the campus the first time. I had heard that hostelites are well-taken care of and food quality is something that the Birlas don't compromise with. Food is something that parents should not worry about when they send their child to BIMTECH.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is as per AICTE standards & the college follows a trimester system. The faculty pool is excellent. Maximum faculty has immense experience and exposure after having worked in the industry. Corporate relations are strong due to good alumni and faculty connect. Most teachers are highly approachable, even after class hours. They are ready to clear doubts at any time of the day, as they know PGDM is a demanding course. The faculty: student ratio is 1:70. The faculty encourages students to go beyond the curriculum. The use of simulation developed by Harvard is made to teach certain subjects. Evaluation and assessments happen regularly. Pedagogy is average (6/10) as some topics & cases are outdated. The end terms are comparatively easy and conceptual understanding is tested, not just theoretical. During 2020, they were managed completely in online mode along with invigilation. Until the 3rd trimester, one will have around 8 subjects per trimester.
Internships Opportunities
There are both on-campus and off-campus internships. A stipend will range from 5,000 to 20,000 and maybe sometimes more depending on the company and profile. The Centre for Online Learning offers on-campus internships. Students can also approach faculty for good internships. Alumni of biotech are also very helpful and resourceful in getting internships.
Placement Experience
There is a placement committee that takes placements and internships after the third trimester. The summer internship starts after the third trimester (May-June). The processes begin from December onwards and go on till April. Ideally, students should maintain a good GPA to sit for and placements (above 8) in good companies. Some companies that come for internship are Refract consulting, SBI, Mars, IDBI Bank, Bajaj Capital, Bajaj Allianz, Stoic investing, Loadexx, Vivo, Blue Star, EY, PSUs amongst others. Most students secure their internship by mid-April. There is almost 96% placement. Students are required to sit for a test for certain companies which require technical skills. BIMTECH prepares its students for such skills beforehand. Companies that come for placement are KPMG, Deloitte, Havells, YES Bank, Infosys, Adani, Airtel, Bata, Honda, etc.
Fees and Financial Aid
Students scoring above 85% in CAT / XAT can avail scholarship of Rs.2 lakh. There is also some provision of scholarships for students from the economically weak backgrounds. Every trimester there is a scholarship (Late GD Birls scholarship) of Rs.50,000-Rs.15,000 given to students who score well in the end terms. As far as the fee structure is concerned, Rs.12 lakh is the tuition fee. This fee can be expected to increase in the coming years as the infrastructure is constantly upgrading. The hostel & mess fee is around Rs.4 lakhs which is quite justified as the food is really good. Breakfast, lunch, tea, and dinner are served. A full course meal including dessert is served. The ones who were quarantined in the hostel were given food inside the rooms by the workers. There are many internship opportunities one can get through the faculty as they have really good connections and reach in the industry. One just needs to approach them and prove their potential.
Campus Life
The number of clubs and conduits is overwhelming! Every type of club including finance, marketing, CSR, cultural, cricket, football, quizzing, international affairs, sports, etc is very active. The number of activities conducted is immense and there is always some activity or happening to keep students engaged. Besides the competitions within the college, there is a platform called D2C wherein all Bschool students can participate and compete in contests against each other. The seniors and sometimes faculty mentors of the particular club take the selection process for students who apply for membership to the clubs. The library is well-stocked with books. The online library is extremely useful too and has all previous year papers and journals ad work by the seniors. Classrooms are well-equipped with technology and good furniture. There are 2 IT labs in campus. The campus also has a gym, TT tables in the hostels, football ground, and basketball ground. BIMTECH also does a lot of CSR
Hostel Facilities
Hostel and mess are extremely good. Food quality is something that is not compromised with. Parents can send their wards to the hostel without worry. Girls hostel has single rooms with 4-sharing system washrooms. Similarly for the boys, there is one hostel inside the campus and one outside the campus. The boys staying in the hostel outside the campus commute via the college bus that runs every 15 minutes to and fro. The food conduit members take care of the menu. Special food is prepared during festivals and special days. Desserts like gulab jamun, kheer, kulfi etc make the students not want to leave the hotel. Strictness is ensured in the campus and hostel. Regular checking is done to ensure students don't do something they are to supposed or they will encounter a penalty. it is important to wear full pants for both girls & boys outside the hostel in the campus at all times. Classes are to be attended in formals only.
Interview Experience
There were two selection rounds after getting shortlisted based on the entrance exam (CAT/XAT), which were WAT and PI. My topic for WAT was, is social media an oxymoron? It took place in a seminar hall and lasted for about 20 mins. Thereafter, the PI took place. 15 students faced two panelists asking about their work ex, current affairs, and testing entrepreneurial mindset. I keep myself updated by reading the newspaper so not much prep was needed there. I only went in confident and came back happier. It went well and the teachers offered me, sweets, in the end! Within two weeks, I received my admission offer letter.
