Remarks

Lady Irwin College is the best college known in the field of Home Science in India. The college offers a lot of curricular and extracurricular activities and encourages students in all aspects. Not only it's famous for its aesthetic beauty but is also known for its rich curriculum it offers to the students. Teachers of the college are so true to their profession. Everyone is well known to societies of Lady Irwin has and over the years the college has earned innumerable recognition through the talent its students have. The only negative thing is, there is no placement cell in the college! The admission process was quite simple, an online form was filled, and then when 1st cut-off list was released and I cleared it, so I went to the college during the time allotted for the admission process with all the required documents, and then I submitted fees through an online portal. I opted for this college because of its popularity and rich curriculum and vast career opportunities.

Course Curriculum Overview

5

Home Science is a multi-disciplinary course that provides a plethora of career opportunities to the students. Because of the nomenclature is given to the course it is considered that it deals with the household chores, which is the biggest myth!! The curriculum is so vast and has n number of career opportunities in almost every field. The course imparts comprehensive knowledge in 5 major fields I.e, Resource Management, and Design Application, Food and Nutrition, Fabric and Apparel Science, Development Communication and Extension, and Human Development. These 5 major fields have a decent amount of job roles. The faculty of Lady Irwin is so true to their profession and gives every bit to their students. The student- Teacher ratio is 28:1. Most of the teachers have doctorates in the field they are teachers of and some are into research.

Placement Experience

2.5

There is no placement cell in the college and therefore the students have to find jobs on their own!! This is a drawback but because of the name and fame of the college one doesn't find it much difficult to do so!

Fees and Financial Aid

INR 28000, was the fees when I got graduated in 2020, which is not that expensive but is on a higher side when compared to other courses provided by the Delhi University. There are scholarships given to the students by the college on the basis of financial status and academic excellence.

Campus Life

4.5

The annual fest Quintessence which is a 2 days fest that happens in February and DJ eve which is a one-day fest that happens in October is the major talent showcasing events organized by the Students Association to encourage students to showcase their talent. The library is fully equipped and has books for all types of readers. It has a separate place for research students to access data, information, and books. Classrooms are also well equipped and hence college got accredited A+ by NAAC and bagged 12th rank by NIRF. All the extracurricular activities are also given importance along with studies. There are several societies like Dance, Fashion, Drama, Street Play, Sports, Music, Eco, Spic Macay, Literary, Photography, NSS, etc which are completely run by students.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

There are 2 hostels, one is for the Bachelor's degree students and another one is for the Post Graduate and Doctoral students. The hostel has a mess and also has a gas area where students can cook for themselves. The rooms are non-ac and are 6 beds, tables, chairs, and cupboards for 6 students. There is no laundry service provided and hence all of this has to be done by the students manually!

Other Applied Colleges

MSU, Barodra, Gujarat | B.Sc Home Science

Because of obvious reasons that Lady Irwin College is the most renowned College in the field of Home Science

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum consists of relatable topics and interesting ones as well this is what quite influenced me to take this course. We have labs which help us learn how to prepare various organic compounds which are used in many day to day products . The course also has a 4th year research program. There should be more equipments in lab for the research. The frequency is good for exams being conducted and there level is also quite good

The students become eligible for the placements provided by the college in their 3rd year, while they can pursue internship offered by the college in previous years. Average sized companies visited the campus with lots of students being placed for jobs. The highest package I am not aware of but lowest was of around 300000 pa. I plan to pursue masters after my graduation degree.

Students become eligible for campus placements from the 6th semester. I don't know a lot about campus placements but I know that there is a training and placement cell in our college that provides good packages to many students. Some students got more than 7lpa last year. I will be doing my Post graduation after college and will make a career in academics.
