Remarks
Due to the Covid admission process of our batch, 2020 was delayed and my admission was confirmed by end of October 2020 in the 3rd cut-off. The cut-offs are already very high for BCom Hons and Economic Hons, and due to a completely online process, the cut-offs were even higher as applicants outside Delhi could easily apply. After scoring 94-95% only evening and off-campus colleges were there in options for the general category. Thus I chose JDMC because of its close proximity to my residence, focus on academics, good no of societies, affordable fee structure. Metro station is within a walking distance I checked out the social media handles and official website of the college jdm.du.ac.in before taking the admission. The infrastructure and fests seemed great. But being a girl and an off-campus college I feel it doesn’t provide enough exposure and competition to help students grow.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose to pursue BCom Hons because of my interest in accounts and wide scope in various fields after this course. There are 3 sections with around 35 students each. There was a no of subjects for choosing GE ( general elective) like economics, Psychology, maths, political science, history etc. The teachers are very qualified, friendly and always ready to help. The teachers regularly ask students about the class feedback and whether they’re facing any problems with the current teaching method and change accordingly. Tutorial classes are scheduled wherein the class is divided into lessor no of groups for their doubts. Semester end exams are held and they’re quite easy to pass. Besides this, assignments, quizzes, presentations are also given. The best score out of all assignments is submitted as an internal assessment.
Internships Opportunities
The internship offered are very few and 95 % are unpaid. Mostly the fields are related to volunteering and sales. Various companies that offered internships were MIG, pioneer, NPO's like Pratisandhi, Zero Kata, Expander. Expantr offered various job roles like digital marketing, HR, web development, research, content writing.
Placement Experience
The placement cell is satisfactory. There are not many internship opportunities provided though. Various companies offered placement for 2023 batch like dare2compete, Metvy FIS, lineups, advisor, planet spark and ICICI with packages of 3-4 lakh pa. An off-campus placement drive was conducted by E&Y and DE Shaw & co. Planet spark offered a package of 6.5 lakh pa for ug courses. The highest package was offered by DE Shaw with a base of 750000 pa. The lowest package was around 240000 pa. Almost 30% of students are placed. I also plan to sit for placements during my third year to gain experience and then go for my post-graduation.
Fees and Financial Aid
As per the fees, the college is worth it. Fees are very nominal 45000 for 3 years. Being a Delhi student only there’s no other cost except transportation which I usually travel by metro. Various scholarships are also offered. Fee concessions are available to 20% of the students, other than SC/ST. Financial assistance is given on both merit and needs basis. The most internship provided by the college is unpaid. Placement companies offer a package of mostly around 4 lakh per annum.
Campus Life
There are 26 societies in total in almost every field like NSS, Aamdani(finance and investment cell) entrepreneurship cell, dance, creative writing, enacts, women development cell. Majority of the societies are recently formed though. Many rounds of interviews are conducted to be a part of societies and the college is exciting only if you’re a part of these societies The ground, library, classrooms are huge. There’s a lot of greenery in the college. However, books in the library are not up to date. Symphony is the annual fest of the college held around march every year. Apart from them annual fest of the department of commerce- MOHUR, and economics department etc are also held. However again being an off-campus college, campus life lacks a little bit.
Other Applied Colleges
IP university | Bcom hons , Eco hons
Despite a good rank in IPU CET , I didn’t opt because of high fees and better value of government degree of DU
