My college experience

Ramakrishna Mission Shilpapitha (RKMS) is one of the best and oldest Government-sponsored Diploma colleges in West Bengal. The best part about RKMS is the environment and exposure it provides to the students both in technical and cultural domains. This college is very strict in its academic curriculum and the students are very disciplined. RKMS has well-equipped labs for each branch of diploma it offers. The admission is through WBJEE JELET and VOCLET conducted every year in the month of July-August (once a year).

The course fee is very less approx. 7K-8K as it is a govt. sponsored college. The quality of education is very good comparing to other gov. colleges at this fees range and better than other private colleges in the state. The faculty: student ratio (18:60) is good for core branches. The faculty is well qualified and experienced in their field. Most of the faculty have M.Tech degree. There are 2 semesters in a year (odd sem-June and even sem - December) which is not very difficult to pass if you follow the classes and prepare well.

Students can sit for the campus placements from the 5th semester onwards. Companies such as L&T, TATA HITACHI, CAPGEMINI and many other small core companies visit the campus. The highest package offered was 5.2 LPA from L&T and the average package is around 3 LPA offered to the students. The percentage of students getting the placements varies every year as many students choose to pursue B.Tech after passing out from this college. I am currently pursuing B.Tech after completing my diploma from this college.

The fees structure is like:- 2K during the admission (including the 1st-semester fee) and then around 600 per semester, the fee is very low since it is a Govt. sponsored college. RKMS offers a stipend of around (2-3K) per month to financially weak students. There are many other scholarships that you can avail such as the OASIS scholarship offered by the government.

RKMS has a big campus to explore. There is a football and cricket ground on campus. There is a small temple inside the campus which adds to the beauty of the college. There are two libraries in the college:- One offers technical course books and journals and are very easily available while the other library is very big and spacious where you can get any kind of books starting from fictional books and magazines to autobiographies, there is a lot to explore. RKMS organizes an annual sport meet every year on the college campus, starting from football and cricket tournaments to various other sports. Tech-Invento is the annual tech fest that takes place every year in the college in February. Many cultural events starting from blood donation to various Drama competitions are also organized in the college.
