Remarks
Starting with good points, to be honest, I don't find any. Talking about the location, the college is situated in a remote area of south 24 Parganas. No hostel, no playground. Due to the non-availability of the hostel, locals rule there. They are greedy, if you want PG or flats near the college, they will charge a tremendous amount. To get admission in NSEC or any college under MAKAUT university there are two options, first one is through WBJEE and the other one is through JEE Main. I got admitted through direct admission, as I missed counselling dates. Direct admission was only available in the mechanical and civil branch at that time. It was the end of July 2016 when I got admitted. In 2016 rank of NSEC was good among other engineering colleges in West Bengal. And that is the reason most of the student preferred NSEC over another college.
Course Curriculum Overview
Honestly, I chose mechanical because I didn't get any better than that. I shouldn't have done that. 1:20 was faculty: students ratio, faculty member of the college were good. The faculty member was also well qualified but somehow lack teaching ability. Due to the language barrier, sometimes it was frustrating, most of the time they prefer talking in Bengali, irrespective of where you are from. All exams happened timely, in each semester there are numbers of assignment to be submitted, followed by two unit tests. The level of the unit test was good to average, it was neither easy nor tough to pass the Unit test. But many of the students struggled to even pass the unit test, as we know in engineering life most of the students starts studying the night before exams. Semester exams also happened in time.
Placement Experience
As soon as one enters the final year of engineering they become eligible for campus placements. Companies start recruiting from the starting of the July to end of the sessions. Most of the companies that visit private college nowadays are either IT or Sales. Core companies generally don't visit campuses of tier three colleges. Pinnacle took seven students from mechanical while TCS and CTS took 20 students almost. The average salary in mechanical was around Rs 300000 PA. Almost 20% of students got placed in the mechanical branch. Which is not satisfactory. And the one who got placed was either in Sales or It, then what was the use of studying mechanical engineering four years. I am preparing for the general competition after completing my degree. Almost 240 students graduated from mechanical from our batch, but only 50 got placed.
Fees and Financial Aid
In the 2016-2020 batch the approximate fees were 3.6 lakhs INR. The fees for the first year are relatively more than the remaining three years, that is because of security money etc. There was no fee hike during 4 years, but one of the worst things is that we didn't get security money even after completing BTech. It was Rs 10000, which was a refundable amount deposited at the time of admission. Nothing in the name of the scholarship or financial assistance for the unreserved category. Minorities and others get a scholarship even if they don't deserve it. I didn't get any job, maybe because I wasn't passionate. But the overall placement was also not good, only 20% of students got campus placed. In which the number of placed candidates in core companies was negligible. Only sales and It companies recruit nowadays, irrespective of your branch.
Campus Life
Maybe it was our bad luck or something else, but we didn't get any freshers party. But when we were in second-year freshers party was given by us to newly admitted students. It generally schedules between August-September. There were also several tech fests organized every year for different branches, like Robonix etc. The library is good but the collection of books are not updated they were outdated based on the old syllabus. Also, there is a small reading room which is quite good if one wants to study. The classroom is well equipped with new technology like a green board and projector for easy and advanced learning. There is a yearly sports tournament which is organized in the late winter season from Feb-march. One of the social group that I got to know was the NSEC confession page on Facebook, it was fun reading funny confessions now and then. The admin was having a great sense of humour. It has now more than 15000 followers on Facebook.
Admission
Direct admission, didn't get a chance to attend counselling.
