Remarks

I have chosen this college because it is in under of Government. The college is within our state. Our college has a good record in successful student got internship, jobs, placement. The environmental of our college is so healthy for our education. Very good stuff faculty in our college, Seniors are very co-operative. These are the reason why I am in this college. And last point I also have some interest in Engineering.

Course Curriculum Overview

I choose engineering because In Engineering there are more opportunities for Jobs and I choose Mechanical Engineering because I have the interest on it. Our college faculty is so much co-operative. They gave us the chance to avail the scholarship from our college. We and our faculty are connected through WhatsApp. So they share us college things happening daily and also the job scopes that are provided by the companies. Student ratio is like 88:12 boy and girl. In our department there are 48 students. The exams held on every 6 months. We have the semester process. Very difficult to pass. Actually I have got a back in my 1st semester.

I read in 2nd year. So I have the less experience. But I am still trying to sharing what I know about my college. Our college student get the placement from 7 th semester. Our senior actually get the package like 3-4LPA. Few students get the package of 11-12LPA. And 1-2 student gets 30-40LPA. This is the overall package system in our college every year. I want to clear the gate exam in future.

College Events

So much attractive. Many many cultural program we celebrate in our college. Sports are the most essential thing in our college. We have the oval Cricket ground and many more.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Our college is under Government so we pay lesser than other private colleges. Per semester we have to provide 5700 ruppe like that. I haven't got any stipend from college so I have not any idea about the college scholarships but I have seen my fellow mates getting scholarship from college. Basically I get scholarship from SVMCM scholarship. They give us the amount of 60000 per year. I am in 2nd year so I have very low experience of job, campus placements.

Hostel Facilities

I live in mess so I have not any experience about it. sorry. In our PG there are students like 10-12. Some of them from our college and some of them from the beside Jalpaiguri Polytechnic college. The senior and Junior relationship gets more effective for us.

Hostel Fee: INR 5000 per year

Admission

Yes for admission we had to pass an exam called WBJEE. The exam helds all over India. Questions were very tough. i have got the 1/4 marks of full marks and got the opportunity to admission in Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College. In college admission there was some councelling system. I have cleared all the paths to be a part of this college.

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

The summary of my four years in one of the oldest colleges in India

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Placement Experience:

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.

I applied to a few other government engineering colleges but i ended up choosing JGEC.The main reasons: JGEC is a well established,fully government owned autonomous college,with good accreditation.It also has a long history since 1961,which made me trust its academic environment.Compared to other colleges i applied to ,JGEC felt more stable and credible.It also has a reasonable structure and good campus infrastructure,labs and oppurtunities for intership .There is also a good scope for higher studies like GATE.The marks vs rank went extremely high in WBJEE 2025.That's why i didn't get a college i applied for which is near my home. You can take admission by giving WBJEE and JELET only.As it is a government college you can only take admission if you get a good rank .There is also different cut-offs for diff catagory.The overall admission process is was very smooth and systematic....Read More

I did applied for the Jadavpur University but I didn't get an opportunity there . But it was my and my father's wish that I study near my home and as JGEC is not so far from my home I confirmed the seat here. According to my West Bengal joint entrance examination rank I said for the counselling in the first round I got Kalyani Government Engineering College with IT department but that was with the reservation under EWS quota with rank 2869. As I was not able to get me EWS certificate my admission there was cancelled and then according to my preference I got Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College with electronic and communication engineering department.
