Remarks
I had heard the faculty of the college is excellent. Also, the labs are well equipped and one of the best. I studied in the very same college for my 11th and 12th and as a matter of fact I realized our hands at practical skills were better than many other students from different colleges. The admission is on merit basis, however at times when other students roll out the vacancy is again filled based on merit of the applicants. My reason for choosing this college over others was mainly the location of the college, as it was close to my place and faculty and lab status.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course because I was confused between pursuing biology and pursuing engineering. Biotechnology is an amalgamation of both these fields and hence seemed like the perfect choice. The faculty for the biotechnology department is like a small family. There are just 4-5 permanent teachers and 2-3 visiting faculty. They offer school like treatment as they know everyone individually cause the student count is also around 30. The student population consist a large number of females and the same is observed in the faculty members. The entire faculty is highly qualified and most of them have very effective teaching methods. They conduct tests and look after the students individually. There is a semester pattern, 2 semesters and 2 internals per year. The difficulty level is quite easy. Passing isn't a herculean task.
Internships Opportunities
College does offer internships for the ongoing projects within the college or so. At times there is stipend, at times there isn't. It totally depends on the project. The roles are quite basic and concerning with research.
Placement Experience
There are no campus placements offered by the college as of now for this particular course. However, there are campus placements available for few other courses. Bsc is a basic course, in order to get employed with a good salary, one should definitely go for masters. There are tremendous options available for masters. This doesn't mean there are no jobs after pursuing Bsc in biotechnology. There are jobs, just they are few in number and aren't high paying.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee for the first year is around 30000. It increases by 2-3 thousand in the second and the third year. The entire course costs less than 1 lakh. There are different free ships and scholarships offered based on the merit, caste, and income of the students. I am aware of the caste scholarship and Israni scholarship that helps reduce the fee of students with caste and low income. There are no in campus placements offered as of now
Campus Life
The College has an annual fest called dimensions that is held around 20th of December every year. It's one of the best fests organised. The College library is fully equipped. Almost all the books needed for this course are available in the library and can be accessed by the students easily. The classrooms are big and spacious with adequate light and ventilation. The projector is also provided for few lectures that require visual aids. The college has a truckload of extracurricular activities going on throughout the year. There are numerous clubs and events concerning almost everything from theatre to languages to trekking. Similar is with sports. A large number of inter-college sports events take place. Social group and clubs like NSS, VAZE ELA, VAZE MUNs, VITHEE, etc are run by the students.
