Remarks
The admissions at BIMTECH take place in various phases. The first phase of interviews takes place in mid-December, the second phase in mid-January, the third phase in last week of February kr beginning of March. The results are declared within a month and a half or after the CAT/XAT/CMAT results whichever is earlier. After successful application, your application dashboard will automatically contain the admit card for the interview on a selected date and venue (in view of COVID in 2020-21, interviews were taken online). If selected after the interview, the dashboard would contain your offer letter, along with the same on mail. All aspects of the interview and admission process were flawless but from the fact of payment of the first installment which had to be made over demand draft only. It would have been more facilitating had they also provided the option of e-payment. Location, placements and updated curriculum are some reasons of choosing BIMTECH. Sources: Shiksha, Collegedunia.
Course Curriculum Overview
The PGDM- International Business programme provides ample opportunities of career growth just like the PGDM Core programme, but they also provide the opportunity for an exchange programme and a port visit during the course. In the first trimester, our classes were online and the class was divided in two, so there was 1 teacher for 30 students. However, the general ratio is 1 teacher for 60 students. All the faculties were highly qualified to be in the positions they are in, with most of them being PhDs. In most subjects, a discussion based method of teaching was used which involved case study discussions and presentations over solely book-reading. Exams of 50 marks are conducted every trimester for 6 trimesters. Depending upon the subjects they span from 1 week to 12 days. Questions are divided into 2 sections. The first section usually contains essay type theory questions or numericals and the second section contains a case study question.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies had come in for SIPs including IBM, Tata AIG, Pramerica Life Insurance, FICCI, EY, Jista Finance, Bajaj Capital, Bluestar, Stoic Investing and so on. Stipends offered ranged from 5K- 30K per month. However, given the pandemic situation, some companies did not offer a stipend but brought in attractive profiles.
Placement Experience
The placements are quite fair. The Placement Committee (CCR) provides full assistance and guidance to students for obtaining their SIPs and Final Placements. Students becomes eligible for placements from the 4th trimester onwards from which the process formally starts. Last year, companies such as Aditya Birla, Birla Soft, L&T Infotech, HCL, HDFC Bank, IDFC First Bank, Mars to name a few had come for placements. Packages offered ranged from 7.5-8 LPA on average for the International Business Programme. The highest package went on to 19 LPA offered by a company, so far.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college provided the fees schedule right in the final admission letter. It contained the fees breakup in four installments and there were no hikes whatsoever. The college provides scholarships to the highest achievers in all four courses and sections in all trimesters.
Campus Life
Although most of our first year was spent online due to the pandemic, the college made every effort and followed every COVID- guideline and reopened the college during the third term for students to experience campus life. Even during the online classes, the various clubs and conduits of the college used to conduct events for the students in a virtual setting. Cultural events, marketing events, photography competitions, were some of the events conducted. Clubs include Retrospective (Photography) Club, Bizmark (Marketing) Club, QCB (Quizzing) Club, UFE (Environment) Club and so on. Conduits are bigger than clubs and include Cultural Conduit, Sports Conduit, Food Conduit, CSR Conduit, and so on. On the academic side, classrooms are designed in a discussion-based setting and are equipped with a smart TV for effective and interactive learning, air-conditioning, and speakers and mics to facilitate blended mode. The library has a large collection of books and computer facilities.
Hostel Facilities
The college has two hostels. First is the in-campus hostel (two buildings for girls and boys separately) for the girls in both years and boys in the second year. The other is the off-campus hostel (RCI Vidya Vihar - less than 1 KM from the campus) which houses the boys in the first year. The rooms at RCI are very spacious and have balconies. It has a bed and a mattress along with storage spaces and desks pre-assigned. The food at the mess is a big plus point for BIMTECH as they provide undoubtedly the best food when it comes to college hostels. They have a host of options to choose from as well. The cafeteria too has a lot lf options, of course, available upon payment of reasonable prices. The hostels need not be separately registered for, they are attached to the admission process since the programme is a residential one. The prices are very reasonable.
Interview Experience
There was a Written Admission Test (WAT) and a Personal Interview (PI). The topic for WAT provided to the group of interviewees was "Digitisation of the Indian Economy- Boon or Bane". The PI consisted of general questions including, about yourself, about your interests and, future outlook Also included academic questions including, the definition of EBITDA, aspects of consumer behavior, principles of marketing, and other finance and marketing-related general questions. Questions also included general knowledge questions. The criteria of selection gave weightage to the PI-WAT round, the scores of 10th and 12th, and CAT/XAT/CMAT score. My preparation included going through model interview questions and revising the concepts learned through school and college.
