Remarks
I chose this college because of the brand "IIT". Also, since my brother is an alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, I was well aware of the culture, lifestyle, and available opportunities at IIT Kharagpur. The selection procedure was through JoSAA 2017.
Course Curriculum Overview
The faculty members are really amazing. They are well qualified and their projects are really outstanding. There is a small drawback that many professors are old and have not updated the curriculum as per the need, but it is well balanced with the new professors joining the department. If you are interested in the subject you will not face any difficulty to pass.
Internships Opportunities
Internships opportunities are plenty for us being a Tier 1 college. The official Internship process is available for prefinal year students and there is no limit for off-campus internships. The projects under professors are also an option.
Placement Experience
For placements, students are eligible from the final year, while for internships from the prefinal year. But, one can take any number of off-campus internships on their own. IIT Kharagpur provides a good percentage of placements and the numbers are already there on various newsletters and forums .
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee structure is in my opinion decent, it costs Rs 1.5 lakh per semester for general category students. In my opinion, it is own and subsided compared to other engineering colleges. The major scholarship available is MCA Scholarship for people from poor financial backgrounds.
Campus Life
The social life at IIT Kharagpur is amazing, With a campus of 2200 acres and a maximum number of students along with an MBA institute and a Law Institute within, it is great to interact and communicate with a huge diversity of people. There are various societies (clubs), research groups, and associations that make it an incredible experience. Also, in the hostel, students from all years are kept together and thus this gives a great opportunity for interactions and information gathering.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is decent and the food is above average. It is however sufficient for meeting the basic needs. One thing I appreciate is that it teaches us that how to survive with minimum of resources without luxury among students from diverse backgrounds.
