Entrance Examination: KEAM I scored Rank 11364. I chose the course because of my interest in the subject. The college looked fine, and it was a Government college. It was my best option, and I took it.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is by the University of Kerala. It is fine, but not very modern. It has all the papers that such a degree usually contains. They are mostly theory papers, with about 2 lab papers per semester. The course structure, however, does not provide any room for research except on the final year, for your seminar and project.
Internships Opportunities
The college provides internship if any companies conduct a drive at the campus for the same. Students may also pursue internships by applying on their own, for which the college will provide duty leaves. The only company that came last year for providing internship was QBurst Technologies. They selected 2 students from S6 for a 1-month internship. The stipend was 10000 INR.
Placement Experience
There is pretty good placement taking place in the college. The companies that visit are TCS, MuSigma, QBurst, Envestnet, IBS, Capgemini, Alcatel-Lucent, Mercedes-Benz, among others. Students can also attend placement pools of Microsoft, Amazon, Airwatch, etc. Out of a total of 223 eligible students, 229 offers were received.
College Events
Aagneya is the national-level techno-cultural festival of GEC Barton Hil Thiruvananthapuram. It is conducted once every year, usually on the month of February or March, and lasts 3 or 4 days. Students from colleges throughout the state and the country take part in various technical and cultural events of the festival.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The institution is owned and run by the Government of Kerala, and thus provides education at a very low fee structure. In fact, the fee structure of the college is the lowest in the state, and one of the lowest in the country. Tuition Fees - 6000 INR per year. Special Fees - 2000 INR per year, Exam Fees - 1650 INR per year.
Fees and Financial Aid
Apart from scholarships provided by the state and union governments and other organisations, the college also provides financial aid to students. The Parents Teachers Association (PTA) provides scholarship to one student of each class. That student need not pay the tuition fee.
Campus Life
Campus life is great. The college is small in area, which is actually advantageous for students to form friendships. The campus is compact, and within 2-3 months one becomes familiar with all the faces and places of the campus.
Hostel Facilities
The college has a Ladies Hostel attached close to the campus. The hostel has 4 floors and 55 rooms, including 2 dormitories. The hostel has a maximum capacity of about 215. The rooms are spacious, clean and well-equipped. The mess food is good, and is constantly monitored by a mess monitoring committee comprising hostel inmates.
Alumni/Alumna
The college has no history of ragging. The seniors are very friendly and you get to meet and talk with them all the time through the above-mentioned student bodies. The college also has an alumni network. The alumni association occasionally holds meets and gatherings in which many alumni members of the college participate.
Exam Structure
There are two internal exams and one university exam per semester. Although all these are compulsory, they do not form a hectic schedule. Even study breaks are given before and in between the university exams. The lab hours and exams are also well scheduled.
Faculty
The college contains a list of well-educated people as faculty members. Almost all permanent faculty members have an M.Tech degree, and one or two from each department has a Ph.D. Some of the faculty are people bearing reputed positions in other institutions(like Kerala University). The faculty comprises of intelligent and motivating people, who are ready to help us in any venture.
