It had 4 rounds of counseling and you can wait for the next round if your stream is not allotted in the current round. The process was smooth. I didn't avail any quota but there were students who availed Punjabi quota and caste quota 50% of seats are reserved for Punjabis.

I opted for Computer Engineering, which is the most popular course and most importantly has the highest no. of placements with a 10 LPA avg package. Exams were purely based on what Teachers taught in class. The curriculum is not upto the Industry standard but Thapar has very high research output and professors mostly are very helpful except the handful who taught because of salary.

Arcesium , Microsoft, and several other big brand names have provided internship opportunities to the students of Thapar with a 50k-1LPA per month internship stipend. There were other startups as well that provided 0 stipends for non-CS people and some 15k-20k

96-98% of people get placed in top tier companies. Even though if you don't have enough knowledge the companies will take you because of the brand you are associated with. They know you are here because of your learning ability. 50 LPA was the highest offered from Microsoft and DE SHAW. Even Deloitte did mass recruitment from Thapar at 8-10LPA.

If you come in the top 10% of the batch you get a full scholarship on tuition fees. The cost is very high relative to any government institute. At the same time due to some political issues fees have shot up through the roof.

There are countless groups in Thapar and are being sponsored by big brands like Redbull, Netflix, etc. The exposure in these groups are enormous. OWASP, Microsoft are some of the tech groups that make students learn tech fundamentals and also organize tech fest and competitions like hackathons, etc. There are also sports groups like URJA which organizes the biggest fest in the Patiala and teams from NITs and IITs also participate.

Hostels are amazing with a private washroom, private rooms, if you want a cluster for all your friends that is also available. Every type of accommodation is available depending on the need, whether AC, non-AC, single, double or cluster. Mess food is good compared to other colleges that I have been to. PGs are also available adjacent to Thapar very easily and at affordable prices.
