KEAM 2011. Kerala Engineering And Medical Exam. I choose EEE but my first preference was Mechanical Engineering. But now I am happy that I did Electrical engineering and not mechanical engineering as Electrical turned out to be more interesting and fun.
Course Curriculum Overview
EEE course was bit hectic in terms of volume of syllabus covered. You would touch most of the topics of Electronics as well as Electrical with smaller aspects of programming to. It would have been better, i more topics were included in programming and languages learning.
Internships Opportunities
Regarding this , the college authority is not that supportive.Since it's purely a government college whatever internships you want , you have to arrange yourself. And before joining internships, we have to make sure that attendance aspect will be taken care of.
Placement Experience
Placement records are pretty good at CET. If you performing okay with no backlogs and aggregate CGPA above 75, chances are pretty that you will graduate out with at least 2 jobs in hand. Also lot of guys opt out of the placements and pursue higher studies either as M.Tech or MS programmes. The choice has to be made wisely what you want to do after graduating whether you want to gain work experience or you want to do further research in the stream. For placements the average cgpa will be 4_5 lpa. Major companies that came are Cadence, Robert Bosch, Royal Enfield, Intuit, Oracle , SAP, Comvault , Amazon, MRF,Murugappa,
College Events
I terms of events and festivals, the college was heaven. It's like you have 2 choices when you enter the campus.Either you can be active in classrooms and befriend teachers and be a geek or else you can be active in campus via campus union , politics ,sports activities, management events, etc. In technical arena , we had Dhristi where so many colleges used to come to show their technical prowess.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Since it was a college run under state gov , the fees were pretty low. Many of us would not believe when I say the entire expense for 1 year tuition fee , accommodation, food and other misc expenses you had comes under 50k. Per semester tuition fee was only 4k which is very less.
Fees and Financial Aid
There were lot of scholarship available to support financially backward meritorious students. These were usually financed by alumnis or fall under various government funding . Only thing you have to provide all the required documents and fulfill the merit requirement to avail the scholarship. Also loans were able to students under low interest.
Campus Life
Campus life was really awesome and I tell you you would cherish these memories after passing out. Most of the stream, there was equal representation of guys and girls except some streams like Mechanical .The bondings that you make in this year's are like lifelong assets. If you were part of some team like football, basketball you would have a lot of memories on the team, the matches you played together, the bloopers happened. Also if you want to move technically , there are Robocet(a robotics club) , Innovation club, Physics club, Entrepreneur society. During your campus days here, make sure you are part of some teams or clubs and you are not academical oriented.
Alumni/Alumna
Alumni of CET is really doing a great job. It could be seen as paying a homage to the institute that moulded you into a proper , well learned engineer. During placements, you would get to meet a lot of your alumni and seniors in the HR panels of the firms you are appearing for. Occasionally there would be alumni interaction programme where reputed alumni share their experience and info to the young engineers. Also if you have a good relationship with your seniors, it would really help you a lot in future.
Exam Structure
Exams are conducted by Kerala University and were pretty hectic. For each semester, there would be 1 internal exams named series exam and then the university exams. Since you would be bunking out classes, you would have to work a lot on exam days and make sure you don't flunk the exams. But those days were fun with night outs and sessions of combine studies. Regarding lab exams, it depends on how comfortable are with the concepts taught in the classroom. Also it will be fun if you like the topic and professor teaching it. During the lab exam, if you are not able to get proper results or namely 'output' there are high chances that you would fail.So trust me , prepare properly and sincerely for your lab exam and make sure that you know the concepts and their practical application.
Admission
You have to write the KEAM exam . Based on your performance in the test, you will get a score and all Kerala rank.Couple of weeks after, allotment processes will begin, and if your rank is good enough, you could make into CET Trivandrum. Since the college tops in the state colleges, it will be allotted first. Based on your course details and your test score, the allotments will happen.
Faculty
Faculty is highly qualified. Only thing that there is no spoon feeding as such. Learning mostly happens from student's side and via self learning. Some fortunate ones manage to do it via classroom to. Most of the teachers are PhD scholars and specialist in their field. So if you want to learn you have a lot of opportunities. And make sure to have a healthy relationship with teachers.
