Remarks

I secured 138 marks in the CET exam. After the 2nd CAP round, I froze my spot for mechanical engineering at the Government College of Engineering, Karad. The cutoff was 136 marks for Mechanical Engineering in the college. For admission, all documents required can be found out on the respective college website. For admission, I went to the city of the college and the process was explained by a person to all the students and parents that how the admission process works and what documents are required for the same. The admission process was completed in one day. The payment was accepted by only online mode (cashless).

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose the mechanical engineering course because I like the subject and its applications in society. Talking about the mechanical department, there are around 12 to 15 faculties for different subjects and student intake is limited only up to 60 students maximum. The faculties are also highly qualified, M.Tech and PhD holders. Most of the faculties are alumni of IITs. At the end of 2019 new digital mart classrooms were also introduced with a digital smart touchscreen whiteboard, which many faculties use for effective teaching of the subject. There are two class tests and a final End Semester exam conducted in a semester. The difficulty level is pretty good and is not predictable. The only way to earn good marks is to study hard for every subject.

Internships Opportunities

2.5

Students try to get internships in good companies with their own efforts. The students also try to get internships in the nearby industries to get hands-on experience and to learn in a practical manner. The internships in the good companies offer a project to be a part of in the companies with the other students.

Placement Experience

3

The Campus Placements drive is started by the TPO faculties in the 7th Semester of the students. In the Mechanical branch, the placements are average and the placements in core companies are very low. Most of the students get placements in IT companies. The highest salary package offered in 2018, at the time of my admission, was 18 LPA in a PSU, apart from that, such high salary packages were not offered after. The average salary package offered is 3 LPA for mechanical engineering students. Students try to get internships in good companies with their own efforts. Most companies like TCS, JSW, Thermax, Wipro, etc, are there for campus placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees for the first year is up to Rs.85,000/- for the General category of students. The quota for category students has fewer fees than general students. The fees for OBC students for first year admission is Rs.44,451/-. The scholarship is granted for the students whose income is less than Rs.6,00,000/year for OBC and similar category students as called Freeship. There are various scholarships for students on the MahaDBT portal according to their eligibility.

Campus Life

4

Every year there is an annual college fest which is named different every year and also a National Event called AAVISHKAR is held in the college every year where many students of other colleges also participate. Facilities and infrastructure are pretty good. The libraries, reading rooms, labs, classrooms and smart classrooms are good. Wi-Fi facility is available with limited data and time limit for use. The library also has a digital library for digital learning for students. Through the bank scheme, books are offered to students for the semester at a low cost and you have to return the books after the semester ends. Every year, Sports Fest is organised and various games are played between the students and one winner team gets the Trophee. There is a number of clubs for students to be part of, technical, non-technical, etc.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The hostel and mess provided in the college campus is really good, for which a merit list is generated based on marks obtained in CET exam. The Hostel fees is Rs.7700 yearly and mess fees is Rs.9350 semester wise. The hostel has a TV room, a reading room, Wi-Fi facility for every wing of six rooms, water filters and a gymnasium for students. The quality of the food served in hostel mess is quite good then the food served in many other mess around the college. Every week, one day has a non-veg and veg meal for the students and every Sunday there is veg and eggs as a meal for the students. There are rooms available outside the college and also there are few other hostels for students.
