Remarks
I got to this college through the WBJEE counselling process. The admission process was pretty convenient and easy as there were so many members to guide us throughout the process. At the time of admission, we had been provided with a huge list of facilities (like free WiFi within the campus, Anti ragging supports, number of workshops, huge campus drive) by a useless book worth rupees 1000. They strictly followed the WBJEE guidelines of admission eligibility criteria during admission. It took 3days to complete the complete process of admission (documents verification and document submission, fees payment by DD, hostel allotment ). This college also provides few management seats (around 5-10 seats in each department) to poor ranked students as well on basis of donation, after the completion of the official counselling process of WBJEE.
Course Curriculum Overview
Though I had chosen the civil engineering department by passion I lose it when I entered this institution. Here faculty student ratio was around 1:50. But the quality of teaching and teaching techniques of the faculty members were very poor. College is not concerned about the quality of knowledge they are providing to the students in each department. All the instruments were available in the labs but again the standard of faculty members hammered down everything. Most of the faculty members were holding their master's degree from reputed IIT's but the quality of knowledge they provided was below the average mark. Except for poor academics, one can't get any practical knowledge from workshops, seminars or training as this institute hardly arrange any. Term exams were not a matter of concern there as this institute arranges a home exam centre. So there is huge freedom to the students????, just students need to buy an Organiser.
Fees and Financial Aid
As one can easily get the fees structure of this institute, so I won't discuss that topic. Approximately it's around 1.2 lakh per year. One can avail of any of the govt scholarships from this institute and s/he might get huge assistance from the student welfare cell of the institute related to the application process for the scholarship. But the college doesn't provide any scholarships on basis of merit or CGPA. If one can get the highest YGPA, the department provides a 50% fee waiver for the next academic year to that particular student. But yes if you are interested to get a study loan then the institute will help you out throughout the process of the loan.
Campus Life
There are so many social groups on the campus. Around 40+ groups are there involving social and cultural activities. One can get anything like dancing, singing, modelling, content writing, drama and many more in those groups. But there is hardly any technical group I found. Overall the campus life is pretty decent but the senior junior relationship is not that good on the campus. Junior senior conflicts are pretty common in HIT campus. A student won't get an innovative or technically sound environment on the campus as there is a very less number of workshops. Yeah, the institute arranges a decent tech fest on the campus called RIVERA in November every year. In odd semesters, the college organised a sports festival as well. I won't say it's a huge one but yeah all the common sports are there in the list. Infrastructure wise it's the best private college in West Bengal in terms of library, availability of journals, books and laboratory equipment as well. But the classrooms are ordinary
Hostel Facilities
On the very first day during admission, you need to fill the hostel form and you will get it for sure without any uncertainty. Institute allots 3-4 students in a single hostel room. Hostel rooms are quite big. So no complaints about the rooms but one have to use common toilets. Every student gets a bed, study table, a chair, mattress and a pillow as well in the room from the Institute. Now a very important topic of concern is the meal I guess. I would say the meal is superb compared to other institutes as there is no particular menu of foods that you are bound to follow. Almost all veg and non-veg items are available in the hostel canteen on daily basis. One can choose his meal considering his taste and wallet as well. Meals are not overpriced here. My monthly mess bill used to be around 2k INR. One can easily rent or choose PG outside the campus as the locality is full of student PG and that is too cheap as well. I didn't found any problem related to fooding or accommodation in the college.
