Believe in yourself more than the college

In my first round of counseling, I had got Chemical engineering at Haldia Institute of Technology but I was advised by some elders that the job scope is not quite broad in this domain especially for girls. I did not avail of any particular quota for getting admission. I had found that the previous year's cutoffs for my college were not very high ( about 19000 ranks in JEE Mains and about 13000 for CSE stream). The minimum age mentioned was 18 years and there was no maximum age limit mentioned. We can get into JISCE through our JEE Mains Rank (10% seat is alloted) and WEBJEE rank. Although we can also opt for Management Quota Which actually requires a person to pay a large donation fee as a lump sum. I got to this particular college after the third round of counseling of WBJEE. Then I had to book my seat in college with RS. 40000 after which I had opted for up-gradation that did not yield any better result so I had finally decided to get admission in this college.

CSE is a very demanding course after all as it offers jobs to a majority of Engineering students all over India and even outside India. Moreover, it leaves various scopes for specialization. The faculty is quite huge and efficient though I do not know the exact number. Our section has been allotted to about 12 faculty members. Our faculty is highly qualified with each member possessing a doctorate or MTech degree. Their teaching skills leave no place for doubts in their qualification. They try to make things as clear to us through virtual classes as possible. The terms are quite timely and we are informed about them at the beginning of a semester. The difficulty level of the examination is a bit higher than MAKAUT.

Our college encourages us and provides us Internship training through Internshala which are not quite effective and are very underpaid. But we are also encouraged to register ourselves at websites like shine, com to acquire internships. Sometimes students get good project ideas and necessary skills while doing internships which they showcase during placements.

The students become eligible for college placements from 8th semester. More than 60% of the students get placed in the core branches and about 90% get placed in CSE. The mass recruiters include TCS, Capgemini, Wipro, Cognizant etc. The highest package was about 7LPA and average was about 3.5LPA last year. I plan for MTech after completing the course.

The overall fee is about 4.08 lakhs for four years course. In first semester we had to pay about 80000 and 40000 in the subsequent semesters(Hostel fees not included). The scholarship opportunities are very minimal and I have not opted for financial assistance. I am really looking forward to get an on-campus job with stipend in near furure.

Annual Fest is held every year at our college except the previous year because of the pandemic. It is generally held in the month of December prior to Christmas holidays. We dont't have to buy books for our semester examinations as they are distributed by our college library and we have to return them at the end of the semester. The classrooms are quite simple and are not smart. Major sports in our college include football, marathon , table tennis , cricket(as heard from seniors because I have not been able to attend any because of the pandemic) . There are actually two grounds in our campus. THere is a huge range of extra curricular activities going on all the time like singing, dancing etc. even in virtual mode. There are clubs like Scince club, Innovation club, Environment club, Art and literature club etc.
