Vivid Description of Haldia Institute of Technology

After securing a reasonable rank in WBJEE exam I had applied for almost all the good colleges in West Bengal but my rank was not good enough to ensure me a seat in government colleges like Jadavpur or Kalyani so I took admission in Haldia Institute of Technology which is the second best private engineering college in West Bengal after IEM as far as CSE is considered. For getting admission in HIT you need to secure a rank in between 4k to 8k in WBJEE exam(for general category students). For CSE/IT branches, you need to be within 5000 rank to be on the safer side. WBJEE Board also provides reservation for OBC, SC,ST,PwD and TFW students. Tuition Fee Waivier(TFW) students gets a reservation of 10% on all courses. For OBC category a rank within 12000 will fetch you a seat in HIT, for SC students, rank under 20000 and for ST students, rank under 25000 will ensure a seat in HIT. As far as admission through JEE MAINS is considered 10% seats are reserved and you need to score at least >=96%.

I had chosen CSE in Haldia Institute of Technology as I want to become a Software developer and master the concepts of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The faculty:student ratio of HIT is 1:14 The institute has full time faculty strength of 246(out of which 90 are PhD holders). HIT has dedicated team of teachers who are committed to igniting the spark of creativity and inspiring a quest for knowledge in the minds of students. Facilities are highly involved in various national levels scientific and research activities through which students enrich their knowledge and get exposure in diversity research field. Class assessments are taken after every 15- 20 days followed by semester exams at the end of the semester. If one is bit consistent in studies and properly follow the lectures during the class then it is extremely easy to score good marks in the exams. Moreover, as it is an autonomous college hence the question papers are set by the college itself.

One having the eligible marks can go for internships from third year of college. The mass recruiters of HIT are service based companies like TCS, Wipro and Infosys. If the management of the company is satisfied with your work during the internship then you will also get pre-placement order.

The placement of Haldia Institute of Technology is average. In campus placements the companies that comes for recruiting generally offers a package of 3.5 lakhs per annum and those are service based companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys etc. On campus placements, product based companies doesn't come for recruiting you can try developing your competitive coding skills which will land you in product based companies. The highest package offered in off campus till date is 24 lakhs per annum. Byjus comes for recruiting which generally offers a package of 7 lakhs per annum. The placement percentage for CSE/IT departments is above 85% , for ECE it is somewhere around 75%. The placement record of core branches is not good.

The fees for students admitted through WBJEE rank stands at ?356700 for complete four years. During admission they take ?48700 and after that almost ?44000 per semester with slight variation. The fees for students admitted through management quota is higher around ?600000. Financial assistance is provided to the students having poor financial background and whose total family income is less than ?144000 per year under the TFW(Tuition Fee Waivier) Scheme they are given a reservation of 10% and the fees charged are much lower.

The HIT campus has well equipped and state of the art laboratories in all engineering and management departments. Campus wide Wi-Fi facility is available with 100 Mbps high speed leased line. Several central workshops housed with latest equipments are present. Classrooms and seminar halls are equipped with Audio Visual facilities. Hostel facilities with wi-fi connectivity are available for both boys and girls. Nationalised bank with ATM and Post Office branch are present. Well maintained Multi-gymnasium, playgrounds, basketball court, volleyball court and badminton courts are there. They have different clubs like Cine club, music club, Hobby Club etc. and professional students chapters like IEEE, CSI etc.

Hostel facilities are provided for both boys and girls with Wi-Fi connectivity. If you want to apply for hostel then you should mention it clearly in the admission form and fees will be charged accordingly. The current fees for hostel accommodation stands at ?18000 per semester. Mess is available within the campus and the food quality is average. Canteens are also available where students can eat whatever they like.
