experiences at IIT Kharagpur

I applied for various IIT's and due to the process followed by jossa I was alloted a IIT Kharagpur. Apart from the process followed by jossa I also applied for local colleges at my hometown as well. The criteria for my program is similar to othe program in IIts where u will have to qualify jee mains and advanced once you qualify or cross the cutoff based on which ever category you belong to. You will have to fill a preference order based on which branch you want to apply. Based on the prefrences given by all the students jossa allocates which branch you might get. The marks can't be specified as it varies every year and based on every category. The counselling process was very smooth as all the details and documents required for the process was already mentioned clearly before I went for counseling.

I wanted to pursue mechanical but due to my rank it wasn't able to get to get into mechanical but got into s asub branch of the same department called manufacturing engineering. Faculty student ratio is arouond 1: 13-16. Qualification of faculty is ph.d and post doc . The teaching is good not excellent though as expected in an IIT. The exams are totally mathematically which ever department you belong to. Midsems are conducted for 2 months and then after two months we have our end sems.

Its difficult to mention all the projects though , rolesoffered mostly are SDE, data analsyt buisness analyst, management trainee. porjects can be taken from any department and we have that freedom to choose any flied to work on.

Placements students are eligible from sem 7 for four year degree student and sem9 for dual degree student. Around 250 companies visited and around 1200-1400 offers made. highest package is 80 lakh lpa

Hike in fees is generally close to 10% per year. We have differnet schorships called mum based on gpa. Financial assitance of full tution deduction if family's income is less than 1 lakh per year. Stiped is given for M.Tech student of round 12.5 k per month.

We have a cultural fest called spring fest and a tech fest for kshitij conducted every januaray of every year during the second and third week of the month. We have the largest library in asia with the collection of around 3 lakh books in total. We have access to e-journals as well as hard copys. Classrooms are really big can fit upto 350-400 students with air conditioning. we have all the sport facilities for each and every sport. We have lot of clubs apart from sports in tech, cultural and ngo which keep the studnet community engaged through out the year.

Hostels are okk and not upto expected standards. Unlimited internet facility, power and water. Meals are what i would say is eatable not too good and bad sometimes. Menu is too potato based which is not good for health. Registartion process is simple which is alllocated by the institute when you join the instiitute.
