Remarks
I had applied to multiple colleges like it, sem, Manipal but I chose Thapar due to the class size and the infrastructure and most importantly the culture of a North Indian College. The admission criteria were board percentage due to COVID but may change in future admissions. There was online marks submission along with a form for branch preference etc and you were allotted your preferred branch according to your marks.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose computer science due to my interest in this field and the strength to impact lives with programming. The student faculty ratio is around 30:1. A more fair estimate would be got from the college website. The faculty are mostly PhDs with international experience and some classes are taken by PhD students. The exams were conducted twice (major ones)per semester (2 in one year) with a moderate difficulty level with some minor tests and quizzes.
Internships Opportunities
Many companies visit the college in the 3rd year for internships with internships having stipends up to 1 lac from companies like DE Shaw, J.P Morgan and many more. You need decent projects to be eligible for internships and basic programming skills.
Placement Experience
Students get internships in 3rd year with 4th year being the placement year. Companies like DE Shaw, Microsoft and other such companies visit the college with many 18 lac+ CTC and average being 7-8 lavs CTC. Around 90% of students get placed but in the end, it truly depends on your skills. I prefer to go for a master's degree due to career prospects abroad.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees are high as compared to other colleges but you do get a state of the art infrastructure and great teachers. The net cost of studies amounts to around 20 lacs for a total course but multiple scholarships with full and partial fee waivers are offered if you study well with a good cgpa.
Campus Life
The classrooms are massive with proper sound absorbance. The sports facilities are extremely great with big parks, a great basketball court, a cricket field and much more. There are multiple clubs run by the students for technical and non technical fields.
Hostel Facilities
All rooms are provided with wifi and specific hostels have air conditioning facilities and attached bathrooms. The food quality depends on the hostel but in general, the food quality is great as compared to any other college. The registration process is online and the cost may be on the upper side.
