Remarks
I applied for SRM University, VIT and Thapar University, and Indraprastha University (IPU). I was getting Computer Science in SRM University main branch but it was too far from my home and I dropped the counselling for VIT in between as it was taking a lot of time. I got Electronics Instrumentation and Control at Thapar in the first round of counselling but later on, it was upgraded to Electronics and Computer Engineering. The result of counselling of IPU came late and I was already in Thapar so finally, I stayed here at Thapar.
Course Curriculum Overview
My first preference was Computer Science and Engineering, the second was Computer Engineering and the third, Electronics and Computer Engineering. So I was allotted my third preference based on my marks. There are different departments in our college and about 200 students in my branch and there are 9 subgroups, so each teacher is allotted about 3 subgroups. All of them are highly experienced and qualified, some are new but again highly qualified. Currently, during the online mode, quizzes were conducted biweekly and it was a bit cumbersome to prepare for these continuous quizzes in a row.
Internships Opportunities
Internships were offered by a lot of companies like D.E Shaw, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs and many more with the lowest stipend of 5000, a maximum stipend of 87,500 and an average stipend of 25,500. Internships were for roles like Web Developers, VLSI Design and many more.
Placement Experience
Here students from the 8th semester become eligible for campus placements. Last year in 2020, 971 students were placed from a total of 996 offers, that is a 95% placement rate with the highest package of 45 lakhs pa and an average of 9 lakhs pa and it is good. Companies that were recruited were Microsoft, D.E Shaw, JP Morgan, Maruti Suzuki, Goldman Sachs, Zomato, Deloitte, IBM, Infosys and many more.
Fees and Financial Aid
Currently, it is like each year there is a hike of about 10% in our college fees and that's a major issue because already Thapar has a quite high fee structure and it makes it less affordable. Currently, I am paying about 180000 per semester for the ENC branch. I got a scholarship of 105000 for getting 95+ in JEE Mains, so yes there are a lot of scholarships.
Campus Life
There are a lot of societies here at Thapar like Microsoft Learn Student Chapter, Enactus, OWASP Student Chapter, Creative Computing Society, Mudra, FROSH and many more. Beautiful infrastructure and lecture halls with iconic hostels namely M, N and another one, O coming up. We have one of the best libraries in India, well equipped with all kinds of journals, course related books, biographies, etc. Sports practice takes place regularly in the evening and one can join any of them.
