Information Technology as an industry was an up and coming one at that time. It was the second best after medicine. I had heard a lot of good things about the college and hence decided to join here.
Course Curriculum Overview
The practicals were better than theory classes. The curriculum was at par with what someone would have studied for initial exams of engineering. If someone studied BSc and MSc in IT from KC College, it's as good as studying engineering from any top college in India.
Internships Opportunities
No, this course was a full time one so internships were not possible. Stipend not applicable in that case.
Placement Experience
All major IT firms, right from Patni Computers, Infosys, Tech Mahindra (former Satyam), TCS, Wipro, etc. Either visited the campus or the placements were arranged. Most of the class was placed through these interviews. I do not recollect the package now.
College Events
Each department has its own set of events - likes of mass media, IT, Computer Science, etc. The college event is Kiran which is celebrated each year. IT department at that time celebrated Pegasus and was a huge hit with participation from across colleges. In KC College, we were encouraged to go to other colleges and participate in their events as well to represent KC College.
Exam Structure
The entire course was arranged Semester wise, which was a new system as compared to the annual examination in other aided courses. Thus, in all, we took 6 exams in three years, with unit tests in between. The day was quite hectic as we used to start our classes as early as 7 20 am. Having said that, the labs were very interesting.
Admission
Admission processes are simpler now. When I had applied to this college, post our HSC (12th Std) results, we had to procure forms from colleges, fill these in ink and submit the form with photocopies of the HSC marksheet. The college would then announce lists for admission in which students with certain percentage range were given admissions. The college has a special quota for Sindhi students as well.
Faculty
Some professors were well qualified and I am still in touch with some of these professors. Since the course was unaided, few of the professors could have been chosen wisely. The HOD was a very disciplined and a strict person which helped in keeping up with the industry standards.
