Remarks
I have completed my Diploma so I attend the JEELET2020 exam and get a rank of 752 and through counseling, I choose this one because it is near my home only 1.5 km and for B-Tech in Metallurgy it is the only last option after JU in West Bengal. But if who reads my review is a 12th candidate they should appear in JEEMain or WBJEE and if hold a rank below 10,000 you will definitely get this through counseling. After paying the admission fee and filling the online form with the payment slip you will be a member of KNU. Before appearing for physical verification Domicile certificate, Indemnity bond, Medical fitness certificate especially for eyes must need, because full about that. Otherwise, the admission process is quite simple.
Course Curriculum Overview
Metallurgy has better scope in the R&D section and Jobs are comparatively higher paying than mechanical engineering jobs in India. As I am a Diploma holder I have to choose this and I do that. Faculties are great except one, all faculties are Ph.D. holders and some have industrial experience especially our HOD Dr. Projjal Basu is awesome. The department has the capacity of 30 students but as B-Tech here is new so in our class, only 17 students are there and no of faculties is 7 so the ratio is also good. two sem are there every year and they are quite tough to pass.
Placement Experience
We are the first batch in B-Tech so we don't know what is waiting for us but seeing the salary offered for Diploma holders we expect something better. Diploma holders get a 15000/month average salary in west Bengal. For getting placement minimum of 75% attendance and 7.5 CGPA is mandatory. And some companies also require no backlog it is a difficult requirement for me. I want a job after completion of B-Tech, I will not going for M-Tech in recent 5-6 years.
Fees and Financial Aid
For a govt university, the Fees are high but comparing with Pvt Universities and colleges with 'A' grade in West Bengal the fees is low and now it depends on you that how much you are comfortable with this Rs 19375/ per sem and exam fees are 200Rs for each paper. But they provide financial assistance and scholarships and I have SVMCS so I don't feel any problem. But yes they should reduce the fees in near future.
Campus Life
Campus life is good, huge campus with playground, water atm, community hall, auditorium, Board Meeting room and especially the labs are awesome. Books are given by Library but I suggest you buy some books which will help you in the future. Classrooms are well lighted and marble-floored with new benches with projector and sound system facility. Annual Sports, Biswakrma puja, Saraswati puja, fest, freshers party all arranged by the authority, and special days are there like yoga day, etc. the university has IEE Cell and it has many divisions to work on various topics.
