Remarks
Getting a good rank in JEELET is mandatory to take lateral entry in KNU as a Metallurgical engineering student direct in the 2nd year of the B-Tech program. If anyone is coming after the 12th he/she should score a rank through WBJEE or JEEMain. Through Councelling and after paying the admission fees you will be a part of KNU.
Course Curriculum Overview
I have already completed a Diploma in Metallurgy so I have to choose this stream this is normal but Metallurgy has a demanding stream because very few colleges or universities provide this course. In KNU the faculties are highly qualified all have Ph.D. Some faculties have industry experience also and provide the knowledge at the time of class. The quality of teaching is good, labs are well equipped.
Internships Opportunities
From the next Semester, we will go for an internship. Our TPO tried to send us to IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, NIT Durgapur for project basis internship purposes and will try to send us for an industrial experience bais internship at Tata Steel, Jai Balaji Steel, and nearby companies of Asansol and Durgapur. Our TPO has also organized training on metallurgy with the collaboration of NML, Jamshedpur.
Placement Experience
We are in the 3rd year and we are the first batch of B-Tech so we don't know about B-Tech placement. But our HOD, Director, TPO is trying their best to arrange good job opportunities and good internships. But the Diploma students of Metallurgical Engineering has got average 15000/month job. So we are also expecting something better for us.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees are high as compared to other govt universities or govt colleges. But they don't pressurise the student to pay the sem fees in advance. Scholarships are there for the qualifying candidates. Financial assistance is given to the needy. They provide placement but they should reduce the fees.
Campus Life
Campus life is good. The campus is huge in the area. We have a separate building named School of Mines & Metallurgy. All we need are arranged in the same building. The classrooms are awesome. It has an audio-visual facility for classrooms also. The labs are very well equipped. All kinds of programs are organized by the university authority.
