Remarks
I did not apply to colleges externally apart from the college which takes admission on basis of jee score and uptu rank. Admission criteria involve a counselling procedure done based on ranks obtained in uptu or upcet as it is called now. You can get a CSE branch if you manage to be in the top position under 3k for knit Sultanpur. The counselling is done online and all the details are provided on their official website. After that spot counselling is organised for left seats which are implemented offline. Then you have to report physically to your allotted institute for document verification and fee submission.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose cse since I was clear of my interest in computer science and also it is the most popular course nowadays. Faculty to student ratio remains to be 70 to 1 and 35 to 1 for labs. Faculty is very well qualified on papers, with Mtech and PhD in their field but lacks industry knowledge. Teaching methods are very basic and every student has to study on his own to get a good job. Term exams happen frequently, you have two midterms before the endsem of a semester. If you study regularly, you will be at ease during exams and will get very good marks, On the contrary, if you are a night owl studying one day before the exam, you will manage to just pass. Teachers notes are sufficient for passing the exams but not enough for a complete understanding of the subject.
Placement Experience
After the sixth semester, you become eligible for placement. Companies include optum, TCS, Oracle, Amazon,l&t, Indian army, Tech Mahindra, HCL, Etc. Most companies are mass recruiters. Every student gets placed from on campus at least in cs and it branch. Core branches have a very low placement. The highest package offered goes around 10 to 13 loa and lowest offered by TCS at 3.5lpa, and it makes avg package to be in between 4 to 5 lakhs for CSE and IT department. If we talk of Cse and It department, nearly all students get placed each year. But most of them go for pff campus opportunities. I plan to go for higher studies probably an MBA after my BTech.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee is quite low as KNIT is a government college. It comes to one lakhs a year with mess and hostel fee. Also, you have the opportunity for a scholarship from up government if you satisfy the income criteria. Generally, the college has some amount for merit scholarship also which is offered to few students. Also, you get loan assistance from the bank of Baroda and pnb, located inside the campus. Overall you will get a satisfactory return for the amount of fee you pay. However there are some job opportunities too, like for coaching classes, there are nearby coaching institutes which hire knit students for tuition and also for competitive exams like jee and uptu.
Campus Life
We have multiple fest year round, Anubhuti, Tvaran and effulgence happen in a cycle and alternatively. Also, we have so many clubs for students, by the students, like teach for technocrats, startup cell, hack club knit, sports club, literary and cultural council, hobby club and many more. Students run charity teaching classes named koshish which is empowering students from weaker sections of society in Sultanpur. Classrooms are fine and have been renovated while some are old still. But they serve the purpose quite well. We have also got smart classes. Sports facilities are one of the nicest with a very big ground for cricket, volleyball, open gym, and an indoor basketball and badminton hall inside the hostels. We also have our art club and PFAC which includes photography also all run by students.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are very basic with lights and fans. You get the bed, a table and chair and a shelf built in the wall. While some rooms lack these basic things as there is no one to look for the hostels. Meal quality is not up to the mark, it can be pathetic sometimes too. It is overall hard to bear. The menu of mess is very repetitive and they cook potatoes in almost every dish. Registration of hostels is done at the time of admission and then hostels are changed every year. Hostels are in poor condition and barely serve their purpose. But coming to charges, it's quite low, 10k for a year, that's very affordable.
