Entrance Preview

There were no entrance examinations to be taken during my term. I had scored a 77 percent in my HSC and had an interview with the principal as to why I wished to study biomedical engineering. He was happy with my answers and I received an admission into the program.

Course Curriculum Overview

4

The course structure is well divided into electrical and biomedical based subjects. First year was largely common for everyone so it gives students time to switch fields if needed. From the second year to the last there was an equal balance of understanding the machines used in biomedical engineering, their functions and inner workings.

Internships Opportunities

The college doesn't specifically provide internship placements, at least not during my time. But we did have to seek internship as part of our curriculum. Internships can be paid or free depending on the employer. I interned at breach candy hospital for six months with a stipend of INR 6000 monthly.

Placement Experience

2.5

L&T, Philips and Seimens were the three main companies that received most of the students from my field. I am unaware of the exact salaries but average beginning salaries ranged from 15000 to 25000 per month. My colleagues and friends however not pursued a master's degree abroad in USA, largely Texas and Boston.

College Events

4

Primarily the largest event is the tech fests that happened at each university. We participated in ours and other engineering universities as well. It's a good amalgam of subjects and we get to present our ideas and inventions to the crowd. Cultural days are celebrated (traditional day, color day where you wear specific color clothes, Diwali, holi etc) with a fair bit of gusto and classes are kept on hold for those days.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fee at my time was INR 200000 payable in 4 or 6 steps depending on your choice. Initial 50000 for admission and the rest each year. It was a little expensive at that time but compared to other private institutes, it was quite fair. The fee had hiked in the middle of the course causing outrage among the students, if I recall they had hiked it by 10000 a year (60000 per year).

Fees and Financial Aid

None that I am aware of, the usual bank education loans most likely. But I do not know any student who had taken a loan or come in scholarship during my time.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

The university has a women's hostel so I can't comment much on it. But from outside the building looked fairly well maintained and had security guards posted. It was situated around 5 mins walking distance from the college within the campus itself .

Exam Structure

Exams happen at their regular six month cycle. Labs were not often during the first two years by the remainder two years, lab projects happened each week for 2 hours. There were lab examinations as well. However there were no internal exams or prelims in the class. The lecturers would verbally quiz sometimes, randomly picking students to reiterate points from the previous lecture.

Admission

I went straight to the principal's office before admission intake began to inquired about the course and was anxious since I didn't have a high score. But I was quite keen to learn biomedical engineering. The principal took my interview and we spoke for a good hour after which he agreed to admit me to the university.

Faculty

3.5

The staff was adequately qualified to teach most of the subjects. There were some lecturers with a bias on students and not friendly to entertain questions but most were quite helpful and you could approach them with your doubts. MGM was considered to be a great university for biomedical due to its ties with the medical, dental and genetic sector as well.

In Kit college their are some rules for placement drive. In 7th sem companies started to visit our college. During my placement my engineering percentage is around 70 and I am able to attend every drive. Once student get placement offer from one company that student is not allowed to apply next company which package is near to previous company. Placement in Kit college in my year is 70 to 75%. The unplaced students have decided to go for MS.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course because I have genuine interest in civil engineering. The faculty student ration is 1:50. Our faculties are well qualified they are master's degree holders in design and structural engineering. Some of them are PhD holders and many of them have done their master's from NIT and IIT. Term exams are scheduled after every 2 months. it is easy to pass because it consists of 30 marks only.
