Remarks

Good aspects:1. Very low tuition fees2. Extremely reputed3. Location (Quite near to my home)4. Good research exposure5. University RankingsBad aspects:1. Engineering-oriented infrastructure and mindset is lacking2. Several layers of bureaucracy and mismanagement is a major problem for students3. Student strength is too low

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose this course because:1. It is one of the few engineering courses in CU which has an industry-focused learning2. Supportive faculty3. High rate of placementsThere are 4 Professors in the Department, and around 8 - 10 Guest Lecturers, for roughly 90 B.Tech students (30 per batch, from 2nd year, since the 1st year is not under the Department), around 40 M.Tech students, and each professor has some 8 - 10 Research Scholars working under him.

Internships Opportunities

4.5

Once again, the Central Placements is very poor. If anyone wants to go for non core jobs like analytics, consultancy etc, they won't get a lot of help from Placement Officer. But in our department, an industrial internship is mandatory. I have opted for one, and will probably go for it in November-December (delayed because of COVID). Companies providing internships to our Department - JK Tyres, Yokohama Tyres, CEAT Tyres, Haldia Petrochemicals, Reliance Industries Limited, Berger Paints, Asian Paints, etc.

Placement Experience

4

The Central Placement needs to be developed. Placement scenario of several Engg. departments is quite poor. But, placements in my department (Polymer Science and Technology) are done through the alumni network, and is very good. Students of my dept undergo a compulsory Industrial Internship in the 6th semester, which often gets converted to a Pre Placement Offer. Most of the students are placed, or go for higher studies, after completion of the course. My plans - Gain work experience and then go for an MBA.

Fee Structure And Facilities

Total tuition fees - 24000 (8 semesters)Total fees (incl. Lab, library, Exam, Misc) - 32000 (8 semesters)Financial assistance is available in the form of Tuition Fee Waiver for students from low income groups.Hostel cost is also very low.

Campus Life

4.5

Social life - Quite good, people are smart, conversations are richQuite a few events are organized regularly.Clubs - There is no formal Tech Club/Entrepreneurship Cell, lack of initiative of both students as well as administrative officials and Faculty.Infrastructure - Labs are quite good, with specialized instruments, classrooms are well lit, airy; buildings are heritage buildings.Engineering based events like hackathons, case studies, etc are not frequent.Canteens are great for networking with fellow campus-mates over cheap yet delicious food.

Admission

Admission was solely based on West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) rank. After that, there was a counselling round, wherein students were placed into respective departments based on rank.

Placement Experience:

I don't have idea about the placements since I'm in first year now. But I talked to a senior and got to know that many got multiple offers in 4th year. I also head that packages are around 4 lpa which is a decent and also a rise than the previous year.

Placement Experience:

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

1. Students generally get eligible for campus placements from the 3rd semester of the M.Sc. course. 2. Deperments like Biotechnology,Botany,Zoology have placement support. 3. Companies coming to campus like TCS,Wipro,Deloitte,Biocon,Pfizer. 4. Deperments with strong placement cells secure 10-15 offers per company, depending on batch size. 5. 8-10LPA Highest package offered by Leading companies and 4-5LPA Average package offered by companies. 6. 60-80% of students getting placements. i am interested in Ph.D. programs for research positions.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

Course Curriculum Overview:

It's my decision from class 12 that I will do civil engineering, so I chose the civil branch, the course curriculum is well and the teaching level is good but the main problem is lab, there is very limited classes for lab, so I think they should improve there.

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
