Remarks
The Kerala entrance (KEAM) rank that I obtained was around 15000. So the admissions to a government engineering college were not possible for a general student with this rank. So I researched the top private engineering colleges in my town. FISAT and SCMS were on my final list and after consulting some of my seniors I chose SCMS. The Cut off to get into SCMS is not so high, a student with a KEAM rank of 30000 can easily get admission.
Course Curriculum Overview
During my 12th standard, I have decided on my career options either as an Architect or a civil Engineer. The Qualification of the faculty was excellent. Final year classes will be taken by Professors who have doctorates. During Each semester you will be having 3 series exams (out of 50) and an End semester exam conducted by the University. A minimum of 23 marks was required to pass the series exams. Series exams can be easily passed by studying the previous two days.
Placement Experience
Placement training will commence in the 3rd semester. You will be having placement training at least 5 days a semester. The placements will start in the 7th semester. Several IT companies like Infosys used to recruit several students. In 2018, 100+ students were placed at Infosys. Even though there are several placement opportunities for IT students, the placements to other branches in their core field are very few.
Fees and Financial Aid
The tuition fees will be around Rs.75000 and additional Rs 10000 have to be paid as other fees like a library, sports, etc. For day scholars who required college, buses have to pay an average of Rs.10000 per semester. The chances of scholarships from college are very less. There is no financial support from college management. In order to get a scholarship, you have to avail yourself of it from the state government scholarships. There are job possibilities on campus.
Campus Life
The tech-fest at SCMS is one of the best in Kerala. it is a 3-day event where people even from other states participate. The cultural fest called "Vipanchika" is also excellent. The library at SCMS is one of the largest and spacious libraries. A large collection of different books and journals are available at the library. The digital library facility is also available. Every class is well equipped with a projector. Individual seats are provided to students and every classroom has sound insulation. There is a basketball court, Volleyball court, and indoor badminton court within the campus but the football ground is a distance of 700m away from campus. There are several clubs in the college like NSS, sports club, Media club, etc.
