Remarks

If you want to study BA pass course here the eligibility criteria are very simple. You have to get a minimum of 70% marks in your west Bengal higher secondary final exam. And admission process is directly based on your 12 mark. If you get good marks you will get admission very easily. You can choose the subject while opting for this BA general course. In my case, I have taken Bengali, History & Sanskrit because I had good marks on those subjects in my 12th exam. The application form is completely online. The official website of our college is www.basirhatcollege.org You have to fill up the form with the 10th 12th mark sheet and admit card and many other documents and after the merit list is published you have to pay the fees. Then you have to visit the college for offline documents verification. Yes, reservation is available for minority students.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Honesty I have chosen the course based on the marks I have got. My main motive was to be graduate and prepare at the same time for the competitive exam. We had a lot of students in the BA general course. The total number of students was around 140. We did not have a dedicated professor for general subjects. Professors from their respective honours subject used to take our class. For 3 general subjects, we had around 9-10 professors. So student-faculty ratio was around 14 students per one professor. But our professors were great in teaching. They used to take a lot of regular classes. Exams were one time in a year and neither easy nor tough to pass. We have given some class tests also.

Fees and Financial Aid

Our college fees are a very little bit high if we compare it with a government college. However, the fee is pretty much reasonable for everyone. We have to spend around 2000 rs every year as a college fee. So the total cost of the study is around 6000 rs. I have not seen any kind of hiking in fees in my 3 years. College does not offer any kind of job placement after any course. Three scholarships are available for students. First one Kanyashree: this is available only for females. The second one is OASIS: this one for minority candidates. The last one is very popular and for all students. This is the swami Vivekananda Scholarship; You have to get 60% marks and your family income must be less than 2.5 lakh per year to avail of this scholarship

Campus Life

3.5

Many cultural festivals like Saraswati Puja, Teacher's day, Republic Day Netaji's Jayanti, Independence day are organized every year in our college. Besides it, we had a fresher's function where some renowned singer came to our college. And annual sports programs are organized by the student union every year. Our library is good and filled with all kinds of required books. And the library is clean & quiet. We have a hostel for outside students. We have a union of student who runs a group in our college. Our college rooms are very average and not very cleaned and decorated,

The campus placements happen in final year of the course. There is a well established placement cell to conduct the on-campus placements. Many well renowned companies visit our college namely Microsoft, Google, TI, TSL, PWC, ICICI, ABG. L&T, etc. The highest package was 50LPA and the average was around 9LPA. Over 90% students got placed from across every department and details of the placement is also available in the college official website. I have gotten a job from the on-campus drive to a core company.

Placement Experience:

The placements of our college are below average. Studies for placement are more or less relevant from second semester. companies like tcs, amazon etc do visit our campus however very few are selected with package above 4-5 LPA. Most of the students seek out for higher studies and that's my plan too.

After the 6th semester, the students are eligible for placements. Mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, Capgemini, etc visit every year and pick up 80-100 students per company. Other companies like Amazon, Thoughtworks, Etc also visit the college. The highest package offered by our college is 15LPA by Thoughtworks. Every year around 75-80% of students get placed on campus. I plan to get a good job work for 2-3 years and then apply for Masters. Overall the placement is very nice in this college.
